*I may take on Unit 3/4 VCE studies in these subjects upon request.

I offer tutoring for all these subjects in small groups or individually, to cater to the students’ needs.

I completed the International Baccalaureate Program in 2008, receiving a score of 41 out of a possible 45, or an ENTER of 99.30, and am now studying Medicine at Monash University. My individual subject scores are available upon request.

I have experience tutoring in primary school maths, IB Standard Level English, Year Ten Physics and Unit 1/2 VCE Chemistry and Physics. I have access to a wide range of materials, including notes, past exam papers and textbooks – no stone will be left unturned in your studying. I also offer an email service at no extra charge – if there are additional questions you have outside of the tutoring sessions, I am happy to answer these within 24 hours of your email.

The introductory tutoring session will allow me to get a grasp of where you are in your studies and take a course outline so that I can be prepared adequately for future sessions. It is recommended that the first session be only one hour, while following sessions be longer in length (anywhere from 1.5 hours to three hours.) The sessions are directed by the student – they can bring up problems that they are having in class, questions they have about the set work, and then extra problems are given to consolidate skills, while the last fifteen to thirty minutes of each session are set aside for revision of what has been discussed and learnt, to clarify everything and recognise any other problems. Students are encouraged to do harder problems as a means of gaining confidence. Links are consistently made between units and subjects, ensuring a well-rounded understanding of the material.

I am happy to tutor more than one subject in one sitting, and I am flexible and honest – all necessary skills for an effective tutor.

I pride myself on being able to relate to my students, taking on the role of both mentor and tutor - I want students to be able to tell me about the problems they are encountering within a subject, and not feel ashamed of the mistakes they are making or not understanding a subject fully; I'm not tutoring them to berate them, but to help them gain confidence and become better students.

With regards to English, I have studied the following texts:
Fly Away Peter
Chronicle of a Death Foretold
Like Water for Chocolate
Medea
Running in the Family
The Great Gatsby
Macbeth
The Leopard
A Doll’s House
The Crucible
A Man for All Seasons
To Kill A Mockingbird
Romeo and Juliet
Animal Farm
A Midsummer's Night Dream
Poetry by Robert Frost
Poetry by Bruce Dawe

Topics would include:

-Writing commentaries
-Practical reports (Biology, Chemistry, Physics)

Possible topics (dependent on interest):
-Extended essay writing

If you're interested in any of this, feel free to send me (Jess) an email at jess.dumble@live.com with what topics you'd be interested in or give me a ring on 0400645813. Thanks!
