What is Medtutors?
Medtutors is simply a group of about 8 tutors. We realised that people wanted reliable, trustworthy, professional tutoring and so we decided to give ourselves a name that we hoped people would come to associate these attributes with. We are not a business, just a collection of tutors. We are all studying first year medicine at Monash, hence the name "medtutors".

What do we tutor?
We tutor any year level, from prep to year twelve. We tutor both VCE and IB. Our VCE subjects are these:
English - 1 of our tutors received a premiers award, two others received 50, and two more 49. All received high 40's. Between us we studied all four contexts, and these:
      • Richard 111
      • In the Lake of the Woods
      • The Secret River
      • Hard Times
      • Maestro
      • Nineteen Eighty-Four
      • The Kite Runner
      • Generals Die in Bed
      • A Man for all Seasons
      • Fly away peter
      • Othello
      • Animal farm
      • Macbeth
English tutoring requires a different approach to that of the sciences. Memorising quotes, and perhaps even paragraphs, is definitely an important part of the subject, but really the crux of good marks in English lies in being able to convey your thoughts and ideas under pressure in the exam with a highly sophisticated piece of prose. Medtutors will be able to help you develop these techniques -of both analysing pieces and writing your own - in order to help you achieve the best possible English marks. As a sort of consortium of tutors, we have a much larger range of resources than a single tutor. We have many excellent essays, chapter summaries and quote books that will make extremely useful English resources.
In text response the most crucial skill is being able to display a depth of analysis that singles you out as a good student. You have to be able to deal with the themes and motives of the novel/play as a whole, whilst still being able to analyse and interpret the most important single scenes. We will show you how to do this .
The context section was a new additional to the VCE curriculum this year. Many students were unsure how to answer this section, and their uncertainty wasn’t really helped by the vague nature of the assessment. Luckily Medtutors’ English tutors all received excellent marks on this section, and have about 30 practice essays that will act as a guide for you as too how to achieve good marks. Many students were unsure about what to include in their “outside world” paragraphs, and will find these essays invaluable in giving them idea’s for those paragraphs.
Lastly, many people have expressed concerns about the English exam, labelling them as subjective, and fearing that all their hard work and effort in the lead up to the exams will be undone by an examiner that doesn’t agree with their style of writing or point of view. In reality, English assessment has been made a lot more objective through the marking criteria, and whilst your English mark could fluctuated + or – two points at max, in reality, if you deserve good marks you’ll most probably get them. Really, over 40 in English is achievable simply through hard work, effort and time. That’s it.
Chemistry - All of our tutors received above 40 for Chemistry. Our highest mark was 49. We all did the new chemistry curriculum that is valid until 2011. We can help you with all facets of the VCE curriculum, from balancing chemical equations and combustion reactions in year 11, to key stumbling points in year 12 such as REDOX equations. For Chemistry, we will not only explain the concepts to you in an easily understood way, we will supply you with notes, go through example questions, compile exams for you, write our own questions and even if there's the demand for it an exam.

In Chemistry, your study score is proportional to your understanding of all the themes and your carelessness. Both can be improved by the amount of practice papers that you undertake, and medtutors has a ready supply at our disposal.

As opposed to a single set of notes of from one tutor, medtutors can offer you the notes of at least ten. You can choose those that are suit you the best, and collectively use them as an invaluable second reference to you text book. We have a broad range of questions to give to you- from the more orthodox to the more unusual.

Maths methods (Cas and non) - half of our tutors received scaled study scores of 50 for methods. All got over 40 raw. Many of us did methods in year 11.In methods our focus and strengths lie in two areas: explaining the concepts to you so that you understand them, and then making sure your aware of the tips and tricks that separate the high 30's from the 40+'s. That’s the essence of doing well in methods - making sure you understand all the concepts in the course, and making sure your aware of the area's and questions that the examiners might try and trick you with. We also understand that not all people actually like maths, and we certainly cater to students who need some extra help in the subject, as well as those who really want to do well.

Specialist Maths - 5 of us did specialist maths, all of us receiving scaled study scores of at least 49. However, our best specialist maths tutor received a raw study score of 50, and received a premiers award for his achievement. In specialist maths, our focus lies in establishing for the student a comprehensive understanding of the course. In Specialist maths, students aren't really separated by whether or not they make silly mistakes - because the cohort is collectively too strong to do so. Where they are separated is in the harder analytical questions that require intuition and a detailed understanding of the subject. We aim to prove this understanding. Intuition cannot really be learnt, but we can aim to develop that which you have by exposing you and making you familiar with the various question types of the exam.

Physics - we have very capable physics tutors who can supply you with numerous questions and notes. It’s important for you to realise that physics isn’t just about memorising. It’s about understanding. Understanding why you use the formula, how you apply them, what the exceptions are. Our tutors place particular emphasis in physics on making sure you understand the concepts, instead of superficially applying them.

Biology - whilst most of our tutors received just below 50 for biology, as a key component of our uni course they all now have an even more comprehensive knowledge of the subject. This is important because the best marks in biology are decided by a detailed knowledge of acute and minute details. All of your answers have to be specific, detailed and accurate. This is stressed by our biology tutors.

Accounting - One tutor received a study score of 50.

Languages: German, French, Chinese, Latin, Punjabi
Our tutors focus particularly on the oral exam. We know how stressful they are, because of the make or break nature of the oral assessments. We spend heaps of time focussing on this aspect of the course and making sure our students are confident of their abilities before walking into the oral exam. There’s an almost inordinate about of words you could learn in language, so we supply vocab lists that will be beneficial, useful and relevant to our students studies.

Additional Qualifications
All of us have police checks
All of us have working with children checks

Tutoring Locations and Prices
Between us we can tutoring in:
Inner suburbs such as Armadale, Toorak and South Yarra
Kew area
Anywhere near Clayton, Springvale, and Hallam. Glen Waverly.
Alternatively we can arrange tutoring at the state library.

45 dollars an hour is our standard rate. Except for English, which is 50. We do have one tutor who has just started and is considering tutoring for the maths and sciences for 30 dollars. We have a passion for group teaching and will significantly drop the prices for you! For two people, the price drops to twenty five dollars an hour. For 3, 4 or 5 twenty dollars an hour.
What about the first session free?
We weren’t joking. The first session is a trial lesson, and if you are unhappy with our services, we do not expect you to pay. I know i’d be unhappy paying someone who hadn’t taught me anything. So if you are that unhappy with us, You can still take away all our notes, and any wisdom we imparted on you, without having paid. If you were dissatisfied, then the only thing we will have robbed you of is your time! However, if you were pleased, then please pay! If you wish to continue tutoring then we will expect you to pay for the first lesson. Please don’t unfairly take advantage of this offer...
If you’re interested send an email to medtutors@hotmail.com or send a pm to us. Hopefully we will be tutoring you soon! Wishing you all the best and good luck for your upcoming exams and the rest of your year! Hopefully it’s not been too stressful for you!
