Yesterday, 10:11 PM Blog Entries: 18 | Re: Why do people drink, smoke do drugs? They might have issues. Real issues. Issues like say mental illnesses. Depression can lead people to pickup smoking, drinking and further down the track even drugs. Some do it as a social thing though.

Once you've removed all the fancy pants of life like emotions and moral compass through rational scrutiny - you are left naked in a room with a graph. On this graph is a LINE OF LIFE MAXIMISATION. Life is nothing but a collection of moments that can either be a) dull, b) moderately uplifting or c) maximised. Some people like to jump off cliffs with an umbrella. Some like to kick puppies. For some disturbed people, such things do not provide LIFE MAXIMISATION. These activities have little payoff, so it doesn't matter how many puppies they kick while manoeuvring their umbrella - the line on the graph is quite stubborn. Life is just not maximised. This is where artificial means can be quite effective. Drinking, smoking and doing drugs is that genius at the computer screen. He looks at the graph and he doesn't like it. Rather than wasting time crunching numbers and data algorithms looking for a rational path to ignorant bliss, he puts his hand on the mouse, clicks on the graph and drags the line up. Life is maximised and the graph looks beautiful.

I don't have anything really against it I guess, but I don't understand why people like to get so drunk that they vomit and don't know what the fuck is going on. Seems like an act of self-destruction, almost self hate to me. Maybe I say this b/c i've never gotten to that point. Don't get me started on smoking. It's just so stupid I can't even get a grip on why some fool would want to make smoking a habit. Its smells shit, costs heaps of money, is unattractive, tastes shit and doesn't really have any notable effect (except addiction of course). On top of that it kills you. Its just dumb. Why not smoke newspaper, it's sure cheaper, and probably healthier. |

Smoke: this, the short answer is i'm addicted, pretty simple really, why i started in the first place, to fit in/be "cool" and headspin is awesome. Do drugs: There is just no way to describe in words how awesome some drugs make you feel, and on a personal note, doing them has brought me closer to my best friends, and given me some insight into my own life.
