Hi...

I am in year 11 and considering doing extension English next year (continuing of course).....

I was wondering how much of the course's assessments rely on time restricted, in exam conditions essays?

We had one major assessment this year which was worth 40% of our year 11 and it was all a take-home-and-do-it thing.

Is there much of that sort next year?

Thanks.

Well it probably is different for each school, but our only assessment which was in total exam conditions was the trial (worth 30%). (We did the crime fiction module.) Our other two assessments were our half-yearly (also worth 30%), which was a creative writing task where the topic was given to us a week beforehand but we had to write it under exam conditions; and also a group oral worth 40% where we had to do an in depth presentation on one related text and two to three additional texts in relation to crime fiction. :)

We had 5 tasks each worth 20%.

Three-part Assignment
Midyear Exam
Seamus Heaney Speech
Trial HSC Exam
"The Castle" Essay

The midyear exam was a 'seen test' - we were given the question a week early.

There's actually a syllabus requirement that says a maximum of (I think) 30% of the assessment tasks can be sat under exam conditions (in english).
