GPE = -(Gm1m2)/r

I used. Then just said it curved like that as GPE (is proportional to) 1/r . Hard to explain in words.

I was r was a variable in the Ep formula - its like 1/x in maths. Therefore its non linear.

i said as G, m1 and m2 were constants Ep was proportional to 1/r which is a hyperbolic curve.

i state the GPE equation and then say that dis cannot be a straight line since the equation is not in the form of y=mx+b... (whoops it sounds like im doing a maths paper....)

YES! I am the KING! I thought I screwed up this question. I didn't know what to write so I just went "er...GPE = -(Gm1m2)/r because bla bla GPE is inversely proportional to r and the asymptote is at 0"
something like that. without the blas and the er

i gave the Ep equation obviously then explained why it was (-)ve because at infinity Ep is considered 0 so anything less than that is < 0
then i explained that nothing can reach infinity so Ep can never equal 0 which is why it had a horizontal asymtote

reckon they'll give that to me?
