Oh, i never knew that alignment had decimals =O
So does this mean that in 4u maths noone gets 100.0000000 aligned?

They haven't been revealed, but they are there behind the scenes.

Large ranges of raw marks are mapped to smaller ranges of aligned marks. It follows that not all aligned marks will be integers. You don't know whether your exam mark has been rounded or not.

Well, again, we don't know... !

I never say never. It seems unlikely though.

and its VERY possible to get 95 raw in maths and sciences and all that jazz... just try hard and have innate talent. a 95% raw would align to maybe 98+?
you shouldn't forget the 100 in 2unit is an aggregate of 100, don't know if it'd be wise to drop this 100 to make 3unit count as 2 units (considering he got a respectable mark as well)

Yes i know the scaling table very well =P But to be honest a 95/96 in MX1 can easily go to a 99/100 for namu (upon repeat =D) which is a huge boost in aggregates (5, easily), while his 99/98 in 4u (conservative estimate) wil scale to like 99.4+. which means that overall, he has a very respectabe gain.
~4 aggregates is almost half the jump from 99.00 to 99.50.
And 4 aggregates is also the jump from 99.95 to 100 =DDD

Re: What do you think was the E4 cutoff for Maths Ext 2??

If you take the 2009 3U exam, you will receive that mark over your 2008 result btw.

My tutor who was a HSC marker for many years, said Maths marks are marked to 2 (or was it 3) decimals. The Maths Association gives a prize to the top 4U Maths candidate and they give it to the person with the highest mark to the decimal.

Er, no, I;m pretty sure that all maths marks are raw, whole marks. Like 120, 119, 118.
All my teachers at school have stressed this.

I meant as in final HSC Mark. Or was its aligned and scaled mark. Of course I didn't mean half-marks or anything like that.

yeah, thats correct, final hsc marks are done to 1 decimal place.
the average of the moderated internal and the aligned external

this is for all state rankings

Pretty sure the ACTUAL mark is down to 2 or more decimals. Although they only show 1 dp. The number the Maths Association uses to give their annual prize.

No, the Board of studies says 1 decimal point on their website. And they dont even show decimals at all!
Look, i'd say a 99.96 is pretty darn close to a 99.98... not worthy of splitting up a prize.

I'm not sure that it is. I don't mean to cast aspersions on your achievement or anything.
Hm...that's what I assumed so...

I mean, wouldn't they just give out 100 aligned? If that's not actually 100 aligned, does that mean I am not getting 100 scaled mark out of it even though I was placed first?

I thought 100 raw = 100 aligned definitely. I haven't seen any case where you get 99 aligned with 100 raw. (purely from external result point of view). And yeah, I am aware that there can be decimals "behind the scene". But I think it is highly unlikely for my case as 6 people or so topped it and they even go to like 1 or 2 decimal places...I have no way to explain this...

But I don't know what BOS does. I might ask few people around at school if they know about this or not...
