Hi...
i'm a '09 HSC-er and my situation is complicated, but to sum shit up in a nutshell i need to make a semi-proposal like now, it's imperative...AND basically, when concerning the link to the Adv course or whatever, i'm not too sure on how to address it...Because in Preliminary course my Area of study is CHANGE, so can i just simply say (not mirroring the real product :D ) "MY [insert-title-of-Major] is linked and is in conjunction with the 2008 preliminary Area of study : Change." Like do i just then expand on that? Or am i missing something or do i have to directly quote from a syllabus or ?....

So i link to an idea or perception of change conveyed within a certain text i've studied within the preliminary course? For example, say a text constitutes that change is inevitable and we are the agents of change, i could use that premise as a link to my MW?

Yep. You can't just say what you are influenced by, you have to say how. For example, I said that Imaginative Journeys influenced me through Coleridge's poetry, which bring up the issues of... blah blah blah...

While I can only provided more examples to support what has already been stated, you asked for further contributions :p

You want as strong a link to the Adv or Ext 1 courses as possible. Don't analyse things on a simplistic level - try delving into numerous aspects even. While this might not be relevant during the proposal stage, make sure that you later discuss specific elements (language, forms and features) which you used to convey these Adv/Ext1 concepts. Also, make sure that you're <b>furthering and extending</b> the skills and knowledge gained from these two courses.

My Reflection Statement had this section:

While my ‘specialised study’<!--[if !supportFootnotes]-->[1]<!--[endif]--> of crime fiction within English Extension 1 provided the basis for my piece, I have furthered my understanding by blending and exploring genres on numerous levels. Not only have I written within three divergent crime sub-genres, but my major work also combines elements of science fiction. While Extension 1 afforded me basic knowledge of generic conventions, my extensive research and experimentation within the genre has ensured that I attempted to develop and refine my writing skills ‘to a level of distinction’<!--[if !supportFootnotes]-->[2]<!--[endif]-->. Thus, I have used my Extension 1 knowledge and skills to supply a foundation for a more sophisticated and layered analysis of genre.

During the preliminary stages of the course, we discussed the reasoning behind crime fiction’s enduring popularity. Consequently, I came to question society’s fascination with criminology and violence. This led me to explore ‘wound culture’, a pivotal concept within my major work. Such analysis of modern psychology resulted in my decision to set all three crimes within the 20th century, enabling an exploration of contemporary motives, desires and ways of thinking. Thus, I transformed a brief and introductory portion of the Extension 1 course into a central, intellectual focus.

This section has been a consistent focus of the markers, so make sure that your link is clear :)
