As long as you know what you did wrong, know how to fix it, and work towards fixing it, you will do fine. I jumped 20 marks between Prelim and HSC English because I worked at improving it, and after my results today it definately did. One of the teachers at my school always said "It is never to late to start working hard".

I just need some motivation because I screwed up in Preliminary.

oh course u can.
in yr 11 i was ranked 125/135 for eng adv
for hsc i came 39/135 and ended up with an 87 for hsc mark.

for business studies i was ranked bottom 10
hsc year, did heaps well

same with pe. ranked bottom 5 in prelims
came 5th in hsc.

so if you study up and keep motivation urself it will be sweet :)

Lol you were allwoed to go from Standard to Advanced.

Hey Eddykungfu which school do you go to?
Shore... I think last year rank about 35~45

seriously dude.. Year 12 changes.. You fully think you aren't going to study differently, but you do somehow...

I'd say, if I took the HSC in year 11, on those marks, I'd get ATAR 75-80

This year I have a shot at 90 + I think.

You're going to be fine. Identify what needs fixing and get to work on those issues. Be realistic about your goals (aim for consistently good rankings and not just a flash jump to 1st) and study with the final exams in mind. Year 12 is a completely new ball game and dwelling too much on previous results can lead people to become either overly confident and therefore lazy, or just disillusioned with the entire thing.

Changes even come after the trials. Last year a girl ranked 11th-ish in Advanced at my school stunned basically everyone by taking 1st spot in the externals over all the Extension 1 and Extension 2 kids. You've got a whole year to make that happen, so good luck :).

lol nope

in prelim, i was getting like above 90% for all my assessments

this year, i got 96% in the first assessment and from then on all my marks were in the 70s
except for the trials.. i got 60% o_O

sucks... got 80 for my HSC mark and overall ranked 4th.. i could have done so much better
i think it was the teacher's effect as well... i mean, surely it says something about him, that the guy who got rank 1 in our class only got 84, and nobody got band 6?

I performed terrible in the Prelim. True story lol. I was rarely, if ever, getting over 70 in my exams and stuff. Now i'm averaging 85% and 100% in my IPT assignment. It's all about motivation, forget all the marks you just got with prelim, that means nothing.

You know when all this started to hit me? The night before my Modern History exam. I was freaking out, i hadn't studied at all, and i had no idea what to study (I hadn't heard of the syllabus :p). I said to myself "Stuff this, i'm going to try, and then forgot all about the Prelim. Move on, and study to achieve the best i can and work towards my dream, and get into University. I'm not a bad kid, i'm the nicest person you'll ever meet. I just didn't have the motivation to study.

Just forget about your marks in Prelim, and strive for the best you can in the HSC. You can do it. Motivation and Endurance.

Good luck <3

Eng 2 unit i went from 60/190 to 8/190 so i ended up with 94
Chem 80/100 to 20/100 ended up with 93
Maths 3U 50/156 to 17/156 ended up with 97

that should show u how much u learn from ur mistakes that you can afford to make in yr 11.... u learn how to answer the question and you learn how to formulate essays properly and maths you understand your way of learning..

HOWEVER
be wary that marks go down...
Modern history i went from about 4/40 to 22/35 cuz i got too cocky in yr 11 and thought i cud just continue winging it and so i got nearly last for my first assessment which was worth 40%... i studied for hsc and got 95 external but internal was 89 and brought me down. so be warned that your bad subjects can go up very often but JUST AS EASILY your best subjects can go down...
