A journal entry is pretty much a diary entry, in an extended form. It documents recent events, and how they affected the person making the entry, and is usually written in first person. For example, in Lionheart by Jesse Martin (my set text) he uses journal entries he made (roughly) everyday to present a realistic idea of what he was going through as he sailed around the world to his readers (audience) of his book.
Does that help at all? I hope so
