Heya. So my career's advisor at school made this statement

"if you take a Gap year and earn over $15,000 in that time, you are entitled to enter university as an (I may have heard this part wrong though) independant student which would entitle you to $60 per week". I haven't had time to talk to him yet as he's been busy/doing other stuff but I'm getting the feeling he is talking out of his a**. Has anyone heard of this?

Also post your experiences in takeing a gap year, I'd love too know :D

Why not check out the centrelink site and see for yourself: http://www.centrelink.gov.au/

All I can think of is Youth Allowance.

You can be considered independent for that if you have been out of school at least 18 months and earned an amount equivalent to 75 per cent of the Commonwealth Training Award Rate in an 18 month period before lodging a claim.
But you can't get that till 18 months after you have left school and you have to earn $17 500.

You can find more info on it on the centrelink website
Thanks a lot for your help, I was mainly looking at our government website but all they have information on is abstudy :mad1:

appreciated
