Apparently if your afew marks off and they need people, if you really excelled in a subject relating to the course you might be considered.

Clearly they don't even set the cut off until all the places have been filled.

Re: would uni's accept lower uai results???

If you're a few -read, FEW - off, your careers advisor or similar can make a phone call. People in my school have gotten in via that way

but otherwise, go through back ways. You can even do a lower-uai cutof course, then transfer into your "ideal" one

Re: would uni's accept lower uai results???

If they were going to accept you, what would be the point of having a cutoff in the first place?

if demand was low, the cut-off would reflect that.

Re: would uni's accept lower uai results???

There's always a hope. I got a UAI of 90.95, which is 0.05 below the advertised cut-off for Combined Law at UOW (91.00). I got in without having to do anything special, I just listed it as my first preference.

Re: would uni's accept lower uai results???

Okey, say, if I got <30 as my UAI, is there a chance I could perhaps squat in spare lecture halls until the janitor's job opens up again?

Don't insult cleaning as a profession.
