  1. "The refractive index for glass is 1.50. A beam of light strikes an air-glass boundary at an angle of 40 degrees. What is the value of the ratio sin i/sin i for light passing though air into glass."

    N1 = 1
    N2 = 1.50
    i = 40
    r = x

    Sin i / Sin r = N2 / n1

    .'.

    sin40/sinr = 1.50/1

    Sin r = sin40/1.50

    Sin r = 0.4285...

    r = 25.37..

    So the ratio would be

    Sin 40
    --------
    Sin 25.37

    I think.
  2. Thanks Gussy Booo for your help. I realise I didn't type down the full Q for the one you were confused about, sorry !

    It was "The refractive index for glass is 1.50. A beam of light strikes an air-glass boundary at an angle of 40 degrees. What is the value of the ratio sin i/sin i for light passing though air into glass."
