What is the best option topic? I do chemistry and I'm doing better in it atm than Physics, but don't like Nuclear chem. Not really keen on medical physics, i.e. not into med. and never like cosmic engine work last year. My favorite module so far is Ideas to Implementation. Which one is easiest? I have till tomorrow. Could someone tell me briefly whats good and not? thanks :)

Also, I have an open book exam for 'Ideas to Implementations' topic on Tuesday. I've done all my notes and we've covered the whole topic in class. I can memorize almost everything in the topic and understand just about everything in it. The test goes for an hour, so would it be best to look at notes at most times, i.e for BCS theory or should I prepare as if it is a real exam like Trial/ HSC type mentality? To be honest I'm pretty chilled but I did a practice test from 2010 which I found a bit tough, but not going to stress for it. Cheers :P

Quanta to Quarks, Rydberg Equation, Energy Levels, radii, spectral lines.... gah!

Hey guys, so I have a few questions.

Hey guys, so I have a few questions.
I understand the Rydberg Equation and I get that there are derivations of it that let you calculate the radius of higher energy level orbits, but my question is, will they ever ask for that derivation or ask questions that need you to find it? i.e. the radius of a ground state orbit in an atom is ....... , so find the radius of the 3rd energy level orbit etc.
Secondly, what the hell do they mean when they talk about the 'first' or 'second' spectral lines in a series?
I get that in the Balmer series, nf = 2, and I know similar things for the Lyman series etc. but what I don't understand is the wording of the question?
Would it be like, "Find the wavelength of the first two spectral lines of the Balmer Series...."
So nf would be equal to 2, but for the two lines would it be ni=3 and ni=4? because there are different ways to get from ni=4 to nf=2, if you get what I mean? like you could go 4,3,2 or you could go directly... please help?
The maths isn't an issue for me, it is the wording of the questions. Thanks guise.

Hey guys, so this is my situation, I'm in Year 11 and I'm deciding what subjects I should choose for Year 12 and I can't decide between Physics or 3U maths, I only have enough space for one. I'm not that great at either subject (mainly because I haven't really tried in either of these subjects, but I'm also naturally bad at maths) I do like physics better than maths but I'm finding this year's physics class really difficult compared to Year 10 physics. And I do know that maths 3U scales pretty well, better than physics at least.
Also, I am hoping to do medicine in the future, so I'm just wondering, are either of those subjects required, recommended or assumed knowledge in the med course? And which one out of those two will help more in medicine?

I am far better at doing exams and I easily out perform other people in my class in HSC-style exams because I have been doing past papers and practicing for the hsc for a long time.
My teacher is obsessed with pracs and he is very convinced that what he is doing is right and what other teachers do (50% prac, 50% theory) is wrong.
Is he allows to do this?

2. Use the search button before asking a question about anything that isn't a problem or exam question etc.

3. Keep a thread on topic as much as possible. I will be more lenient if going off topic is somewhat related to HSC Physics.

4. Use your common sense, if you think you shouldn't do something, don't do it.

5. If you're posting a question from a HSC paper, include the source of the question.

6. Type in full English because its easier to read - shortened internet swag language is not allowed.

7. If you post about tutoring or sales in any thread, it will be deleted and a warning given.

8. Do not repeat the same question in more than one thread if you are not being answered, be patient and you will eventually get a response.

9. It is UNACCEPTABLE to receive help then delete the thread - repeat offenders will be given a warning.

10. All other "global" forum rules apply - this thread serves as both a reminder and other rules that are implemented here.
