The maths in economics really does depend on your selection. Macro based subjects can be a whole bunch of essays albeit there are courses there with intense calculus.

To find Ø in the cosine formula You are using the diagonals x and y.
You should instead use the base sides, which can be found with tan ratios.
I.e swap sin for tan
ACTL3182 is a lot easier to get your head around albeit some parts are harder.
3162 does get messy as there is alot more to cover but I think there is more to take from the course in terms of application for the workplace.
I think first year should give you a good feel for it.
