    Hsc 2009 Dates

Re: Do I really need a tutor to get good UAI? ... that is the stupidest thing I've read all day. Clearly, if you're smart and have a good work ethic (even if you're not that smart tbh) you can pull off a UAI well above 90. It all comes down to the amount of work you do, your subjects to some...

Did you agree or disagree with source 1?

I disagreed with it. Said that didactic history is doomed to fail because societal values will inevitably change over time and therefore its significance will decrease. Fairly happy with it, made sure my thesis was tight and pulled out 10 pages on it.

    bermuda triangle??

Controversy is irrelevant unless its historical controversy. It is History Extension after all. I did Caligula for mine, but I always regretted not doing Peter the Great. To cut to the chase, pick something that you enjoy, but make sure it suits the course first.

    Section IV - Historical Periods

My class studied Rome 133-78 as our historical period topic. The questions were shit though, so I answered the compare Tiberius/Caligula because that was a large portion of my History Extension project haha. So was pretty pleasing in the end.

    who took a gamble?

I'd worked pretty much only on terror/propaganda and totalitarian, so I was fairly happy with the question.

    south africa, mandela, indochina

I'm hoping this is true, because I had 10 pages of win on Vietnam, but didn't really mention Cambodia.

Who managed to finish the exam?

I finished with about 26 pages done with 10 minutes or so to spare. Fairly happy with it overall.

Text Types for Paper 2 Advanced

I reckon that if only one section is not an essay it would have to be B, because it adds to the personal aspect of the response. However, a lot of the questions that I've seen for Frontline have been varied text types, so I think there is a distinct possibility of having only one essay in the exam.

    The related World....of Warcraft

I was going to do WoW as a related text as well, but my english teacher basically panned it. Apparantly videogames don't go down well at the marking centre, no matter how sophisticated your analysis of them.

    Athens: Democracy/Timocracy?

A timocracy is a government which is controlled by the wealthy, usually property owners. So, to some extent, Athens was a timocracy, in regards to the pentakosiomedimnoi, hippeis, etc, but Athens is nevertheless the classic example of democracy. I haven't seen any questions that really ask this...

    related texts for frontline??

I'm using Absolute Power as well, very easy to link to Frontline.

how many people are doing history extension in your school?

My school has Ancient and Modern History Extension classes. There are about 20 people doing modern, with Appeasement as their case study, and out of the original 10 doing Ancient, there are only 3 people left after the others failed the half yearlies lol. We're doing Tacitus' Annals as our case...
