Bsci - major in Financial maths and statistics?

Statistics in uni is a different ball game to anything you've done in high school maths. Probability doesn't feature that much in it either. Basically you learn different techniques to model and interpret data. It's grueling in terms of workload. Some subjects are conceptually hard as well...

Bsci - major in Financial maths and statistics?

Hey mate, Currently in my final year of B Adv Sci majoring in Financial math and statistics @ USYD The employment opportunities are quite diverse. Mathematics is a very well respected subject area and almost all companies in a wide range of fields would find value in a mathematician because...

    Multiple Choice

I got the 18/20 same as you and I'm pretty confident with them. I didn't get the oxidising agent question because I don't know what that means :P And with question 18 I misread the question. I did the effects of acetic acid on water (instead of the other way around) so i chose (D)... So annoying...

    MC help

This is the reason as to why its "B". There was a big debate between English and German scientists as to whether the cathode rays were particles or EMR. These were the observations: EMR: - Rays penetrated through thin metal foils with no damage - Rays travelled in straight...

    Help Me!

Just a tip on the first one. Even if you don't know the answer you can guess that its "x" because "z" and "y" are practically the same, and "w" is also the same just on the other side :P For the second one the conventional current is flowing from left to right, and electrons flow against...

    How are u 2013'ers finding MX2?

"random". They pop up consistently every year. For question 2, 12/15 isn't good enough so you will be sweating on that question hoping its not a pain in the butt

    Urgent physics questions

    1. With the assistance of a parabolic mirror, Hertz created standing waves. This allowed him to measure the wavelength of the wave and hence work out the speed using v=fl. He found v to be very close to c (speed of light), confirming Maxwell's prediction that all electromagnetic waves travel at...

    How are u 2013'ers finding MX2?

Are you high? Sure when you're learning it, it seems straight forward... but come HSC you will see that the last complex number question in every HSC paper will usually stump you more than most other topics. I think integration is probably the easiest topic.

I edited my original solution :)

    Second derivative question

    f'(t) = 14t(2t - 1)^6 + (2t - 1)^7 (Using the Product Rule) f"(t) = 14t x 12(2t - 1)^5 +14(2t - 1)^6 + 14(2t - 1)^6 = 168t(2t - 1)^5 + 28(2t - 1)^6 Therefore: f"(1) = 168(1) + 28(1) = 196

    velocity sign in SHM??

As mentioned above if it asks for speed then you take the positive value as speed is not a vector quantity. However sometimes it can be confusing when they ask for velocity and you have two solutions: one positive and one negative. In this case you choose the one that matches the initial...

    General Thoughts: Mathematics Ext 2

Hey I marked mine to be 67/100. Possibly 69/100 if they are leniant on something i over simplified. I've heard the E4 cutoff is around there, does anyone know if I'll make it??

2012 HSC Extension 2 Mathematics Solutions

    Ahh I see. I wrote x= (u1 + u2)/2 , y=( (z-u1) + (u2-z) ) / 2 and then I eliminated u2 and left an equation in terms of y, x, u1. Do you think I might still get the two marks?

2012 HSC Extension 2 Mathematics Solutions

Hey carrot for question 12. d) (ii), once you found the midpoint aren't you then meant to find a cartesian expression for the locus? Also thanks for the solutions :) Made me realise how simple some of the questions that i couldnt figure out were :(

    General Thoughts: Mathematics Ext 2

I found MC and questions 11 and 12 pretty easy. Does anyone know what the answer to the complex locus question? My answer had A1 in it but i wasnt sure if thats cartesian enough. Question 13 i couldnt do the ratio of sides in that triangle. Same problem in circle geo. Volumes i completely left...
