Who received a 2nd Round UNSW Medicine interview offer? :)

I did. Was predicted 98 for Main Round and rejected. Got 99.60 ATAR and was offered a late round.

    Who is going to UNSW?

This. Not so much missing physics, but I was kind of depressed after my final maths exams, since I knew there wouldn't be much maths in med. You're rural, right? So you've had your interview? I got a late round offer on Friday because of a low predicted ATAR, but a high actual ATAR, so maybe...

    Who is going to UNSW?

Chances are I'll go to UNSW. My first preference is at UNSW, second at UWS and third at UNSW. First two required an interview so not certain about entry into those, but if I fail to get into my first two preferences, I'll definitely get into my third at UNSW.

    References

My school gives out references. I'm pretty sure we pick them up a couple of days before HSC results are out. They're written by our home-room teachers (called pastoral teachers at my school) and they're generally very positive.

    Question 11

Yeah, I mentioned that in 1977, the Methodists, Presbyterians and Congregationalists united to form the Uniting Church. It was also significant that it was a Methodist Church that turned into a Uniting Church (in stimulus) as the Methodists were the most active group in encouraging and working...

    SOR I - Section 3! YOUR THOUGHTS

I loved section III. I think the reason they took that direction was because they had already asked two generic essays for 2007 and 2008, so they didn't want to be so predictable that students could gauge what key area the next essay would be on (key areas being significant person, ethics and...

    Section 2 - Creative Writing

Awesome stimulus. Both could have fit well with any prepared story. I chose the first quote. Re: "celebrates the way relationships contribute to a sense of belonging" I think this was straight-forward and relevant. I don't see what's confusing; relationships and belonging go hand in hand.

    Section 3 - Extended Response

Surprised they only asked for one related text, but it was good as it meant I could spend more time explaining my ideas and making a stronger link to the question. Also my second text didn't have much 'understanding' in it, so it was convenient to not have to use that. It went well with my...

    Section 1 - Stimulus

Thought it was quite an easy section, at least in comparison to the CSSA Trial. I was a bit disappointed that there were four texts (would have preferred three) but everything still went smoothly. I used the visual and the poem for (e). Text Four wasn't as technique-dense as I would have...

One of those "HELP 10 or 12 units!!" thread.

Good decision. I was on 13 units (with design and tech) in term 4 last year and I was coming first, but, like you, my time being was consumed by these 2 units that I didn't particularly have a passion for. As soon as you drop it you will start to improve in your other subjects (e.g. I came...

Going well in UMAT without prep courses

Whoa that's a huge difference! Well then it looks like I'll have to improve in all three sections :cold: I'll be sure to ask my careers advisor to purchase a prep course package. So far Medentry seems to have the best reputation, but I'll have to look into it more. My careers advisor is very...

Going well in UMAT without prep courses

I agree. I've done all three now and marked them and I saw no improvement :( Except for section 2. Easiest section ever! I wish I could say the same for the other two though.

Going well in UMAT without prep courses

I don't think that requiring UMAT tuition means that one is not cut out to be a doctor. Sometimes to go well in tests you just need to be familiar with the style of questions and to see how the examiners test for certain skills.

Going well in UMAT without prep courses

Ok. Well I'll see if my school is willing to pay. I guess my careers advisor is the person to ask. I'll also look into those scholarships.

Going well in UMAT without prep courses

Thanks for the advice. I googled Buzan and Mensa and they seem like good ways to improve. Could you please comment on the marks that I achieved in this practice; is it credible to get into the top percentiles with marks like these or do I still have a lot of practice to do?

Going well in UMAT without prep courses

Hi. I am quite serious on a career in Medicine, so I'm hoping people can help me out on ways to improve my UMAT marks without preparation courses. I think I would benefit from such courses but my family isn't really in the financial situation to pay for one. What I have purchased though is...

    Pendulum Prac Questions

I have a prac exam for Physics and our teacher has told us that most of the marks in the exam will come from performing and answering questions on the pendulum prac, so if anyone has found particularly interesting or challenging questions could you please post them so that I can answer them as...

    Gravity Question

Well my Chemistry and Physics teachers always stress that you can only assume the values given in the question and the data sheet. My chem teacher even said that you can lose marks for stating the specific heat capacity of water as 4.18 J/g/K instead of 4.18x10^3 J/kg/K like it says on the data...

Can a monic polynomial be negative?

True, you can make a monic polynomial negative, but once the leading coefficient is not 1 then it is no longer monic. Therefore, if a polynomial had a leading coefficient of -1, it would be considered non-monic.
