On a serious note though, rep is sort of a credibility thing. It allows the differentiation between legitimate users and those who just troll or make stupid posts.
people don't usually get negged for no reason yknow
Bring back rep
Keep rep removed
I don't care
(I made a mistake on the last poll and mods said to just make another)
admins would like feedback

I got negged for no reason by a troll called khan, he made multiple account yesterday only to ned me for absolutely no reason so I contacted mods to help me.
I am against it, it isn't necessary. I'm looking for a tutor so he negged me so people think I'm a troll and tutors ignore me. Some People are using it for the wrong purpose. I think removing the neg reps is the best solution in this case, people either give positive rep or give nothing.

For those worried about being negged for no reason, what would be your thoughts regarding a feature that would you allow you to disable rep from your settings? In other words, you would have the ability to participate in the reputation system or completely opt out. (I haven't spoken to harrisony about whether this is technically possible - just throwing it out there).
are you willing to let a few bad eggs to influence your decision and destroy the system completely?
is the problem with the system people taking negs/criticism far too personally?
would you rather the person leave messages on your wall/reply to the comment in the thread and leave their negative opinion?
a stupid reason to you may not equal a stupid reason to them
define stupid reason
rep is a personal thing, there aren't guidelines for it
should there be guidelines for it?
is negative rep and the rep system a casualty of over sensitive people?
should the admins and mods asked the users opinions before doing this?
maybe just have a better reporting system so people don't neg for no reason.
Toto, I've a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore
"I haven't even talked to Nick yet. I was trying to track him down this week, which is always fun.. So I called [Nick's brother] Nate, and Nate told me, 'Listen, if you talk to him, tell him I'm looking for him too.'"
LOL, what's the point of even having rep then?
Rep is essentially your credibility on bos. If you troll, you get negged- and no one takes you seriously.
People who are helpful are repped, and their credibility in reflective of that (usually).
Just because a few people misuse the rep system doesn't mean that it doesn't work as a whole.
Asking for an opinion may have been the more 'respectful' (can't think of a better word) thing to do. But ultimately, it is their decision. Like sure, we may be their income but I'm sure a large amount of people would continue to come here even if they made some bad decisions (lurkers, people who want resources, etc.).

I think the only reason why people are against rep is because a few people decided to neg indiscriminately and for no legitimate reason. You can't remove a whole system because very few people misuse it.
It's like me going, "hey guys, you're not allowed to buy pain medication anymore because some people are using it for the wrong reasons"
