1. ## Carrotsticks' 2017 Mathematics Extension 2 solutions

Up to Q16 atm and have to do a few diagrams, so won't be too long hopefully.

If you're wondering about my opinion on the paper, I reckon it was a pretty difficult paper compared to other years actually.

Most recent draft:

My thoughts:

- Overall a pretty difficult paper.
- E4 Cutoff will probably be around 68/100.

ooh what questions in particular?

I thought the paper was of medium difficulty, apart from a few questions (the conics & hyperbola + ellipse, that trick for the very last question where you had to subtract got me, q10 mc I didn't know, last part of circle geo, q16 complex numbers summing that thing in part 2 i think)

I'd guess I got around 80-85 raw. Really disappointed in myself tbh.

What do you think the e4 cut off will be?

Ignore this post.

What was question 9?

(C)

8. ## Re: Carrotsticks' 2017 Mathematics Extension 2 solutions

Ok thank god lol

Do you have any idea on what the e4 cut off raw mark wise would be?

9. ## Re: Carrotsticks' 2017 Mathematics Extension 2 solutions

Okay done just briefly checking now and formatting etc.

10. ## Re: Carrotsticks' 2017 Mathematics Extension 2 solutions

Was stuck on Q16 (a) (ii) for ages because I insisted on trying to be clever and breaking it up into two sum of GPs because the other way is 'stupid'. Turns out that was the way to go top kek (cries).

My apologies, I got confused with the 2 choices. Yes it is (B).

13. ## Re: Carrotsticks' 2017 Mathematics Extension 2 solutions

The locus question in Q11 (a) is wrong btw, so ignore that. It's basically what I have but the circle falls short of hitting the origin.

14. ## Re: Carrotsticks' 2017 Mathematics Extension 2 solutions

Q1 has 8 roots doesn't it?

Also ahh are there 4 values for a in q16? I assumed a had to be positive

Edit: I think 11b) may be wrong? since those values are for a^2 and b^2 not a and b

15. ## Re: Carrotsticks' 2017 Mathematics Extension 2 solutions

I think you stuffed up 11 (b), a = 2 root 3

1 is C

Today, I learned that I can't count.

(cheers man)

18. ## Re: Carrotsticks' 2017 Mathematics Extension 2 solutions

For 11(b), instead of doing b/a, you did (b/a)^2

19. ## Re: Carrotsticks' 2017 Mathematics Extension 2 solutions

Fixed that one too! Absolute classic.

20. ## Re: Carrotsticks' 2017 Mathematics Extension 2 solutions

Hey Carrotsticks, you reckon I would lose 1/2 marks if I got a = 1 and 1/3, but I didn't have the plus minus?

Honestly, sometimes I feel like my genny friends can count to ten better than I can.

I sure hope they can. I'm pretty sure they spend a whole term learning the integer sequence from 1 to 10.

I don't even think you would lose any marks. Unless I am mistaken, even in the course it's not clear if A must be zero or not. If NESA can't decide then surely they won't dock you down for that.

24. ## Re: Carrotsticks' 2017 Mathematics Extension 2 solutions

Hey Carrotsticks, what do you reckon the e4 cut off this year is going to be?

25. ## Re: Carrotsticks' 2017 Mathematics Extension 2 solutions

Weird, I fixed the locus diagram and then it stuffed up again.
