I'm having difficulty finding a related text for Ted Hughes' "Birthday Letters." I've got one which is a poem by Sylvia Plath but my school says we have to have one that isn't related to their relationship and surprisingly, that's where i'm having difficulty.

What are peoples thoughts on using American beauty as a supplementary text?
My other texts are:
- "The trials of Oz" from the Justice Game by Geoffrey Robinson
- "Michael X on death row" from the Justice Game by Geoffrey Robinson
- "Vesper-song of the reverend Samuel Marsden" by Kenneth Slessor (worst poem ever)
You're sort of right, but i think if you look at it from different angles everybody has a different idea or 'perspective' about what's happening which is basically what happens in Snow Falling on Cedars. I also think if you look at the different motives that different people have that could be used as 'conflicting perspectives' too. Though i could be completely wrong. We shall see after my assessment task next week >.<;

No, you are allowed to use Plath's poetry. We're studying Birthday Letters as well, and the head of english came around to our class and encouraged to use at least one text that related directly to their relationship (whether it ba an article about hughes/plath or one of HER poems...), and at least one unrelated.
I was thinking of using United 93, because I thought it could relate to JC quite well.
Do you think it's a good choice?

We've got to remember that we need to use a variety of texts from a variety of different sources and "evaluate how medium of production, textual form, perspective and choice of language influence meaning".
So they pretty much want us to look at different mediums to our prescribed texts, for example I'm doing Caesar so I should use a related text that is a different medium to a play, so an article or poem would be acceptable here.
And the markers tend to like it if students use a variety of print media - it shows that these kids just haven't sat down and watched a whole bunch of movies.
My main question is: the syllabus calls for various representations of events, personalities of situations. So does that mean that if I chose to look at Caesar in the play as a personality I have to only look at personalities in my related texts?![]()
how about "stan" by eminem

I'm thinking of doing Farenheit 9/11, American Beauty or an article on the naked child paintings.

United 93 is good.
Just from what's been suggested by friends at my school, I'm going to guess that Bill Henson is going to be REALLY popular throughout the state (about 10/210 kids at my school using it), same with Animal Farm.
American Beauty - nothing really wrong with it - but it's used in Yr 11 a lot in combination with either The Great Gatsby or Of Mice and Men, so BoS people might thing you ripped it from your Yr 11 course.![]()
does anyone have a good article they could sugest to me to use for conflicting perspectives?
thanks!![]()
are there any other types of those around
My friend said that she was going to use "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" (the book by Dr Seuss) as a related text .
