    mountain lion

have you tried the mountain lion developer previews?

i used them since february for the airplay mirroring and although for airplay the dp1 was buggy, the dp2, 3 and 4 have been much better.

the golden master should be out soon and a bit later this month the final version should be available on the mas.

    Re: mountain lion

i am happy to wait for the final build. the point (to me) of apple stuff was that it works great from the start. no point in me signing up to be a dev like some of my friends just to be a beta tester and lose out on stability.

when ML comes out i plan to format my MBA though. should be fun.

    Yep agreed.

Main reason I buy Apple stuff is because they usually just tend to work pretty well. Will definitely be upgrading when it comes out though.

    Re: mountain lion

there is a delay in the release of the gm.

the new rmbp is causing a problem because it's such a radically different hardware that even mountain lion isn't currently behaving as well as it should be on it.

if it wasn't for the rmbp problems the gm should have been released by now and this is frustrating for those who don't even have a rmbp.

    Re: mountain lion

I really like the RMBP but can't bring myself to justify buying it given my very modest computing needs (namely BoS, Facebook, Gmail/Gtalk and watching movies/anime) and my pretty much perfect for my needs 11" MBA. I used it in the Apple Store and it was a tad laggy in comparison to the usual instant responsiveness of Mac OS X but it looked oh so beautiful.

    Re: mountain lion

    The gm is free.

But if you get the final version from the mas you will have to pay for it.

Tim Cook announced today that the final version will be released tomorrow on the mas:

    http://4unitmaths.com/applepressinfo.pdf

    (paragraph 4)

“We’re thrilled with record sales of 17 million iPads in the June quarter,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. “We’ve also just updated the entire MacBook line, will release Mountain Lion tomorrow and will be launching iOS 6 this Fall. We are also really looking forward to the amazing new products we’ve got in the pipeline.”

i still haven't upgraded. battery issues are a deal breaker for me (but everyone always seems to get these with every new update to iOS/mac os) but even worse, damn parallels desktop 6 doesn't support ML. i'm not paying again!

The latest version of Parallels Desktop 7 supports ML.

But if you want the airplay mirroring in Lion or Snow Leopard, you can still do that with AirParrot.

I just think the airplay mirroring is better through ML though.

airplay mirroring in ML only mirrors to an apple tv though which makes me sad

    Re: mountain lion

new build of os x mountain lion 10.8.3 (build 12d50) is out now on the mas

no dmgs are available on the mac dev center yet so if you want to keep the mountain lion installer then after it downloads from the mac app store but before installing the update go to /Library/Updates and find the file OSXUpd10.8.3Seed.pkg and copy it somewhere. You have to do this because after updating the installer deletes itself!

    Re: mountain lion

Build 12D54 is available to developers.

    Seed note says:

    Known Issues

    - None

    Focus Areas

    - AirPlay

- AirPort

- Game Center

- Graphics Drivers
    - Safari

I've only tested out the airplay mirroring and it seems to still work OK.

I've been getting a lot of Mac OS X updates re: printers and I'm using the public release versions (rather than developer editions).
