    2012 campus food guide?

Theres probably been significant changes to the campus food since 2009...can anyone name any places on/near campus where you can get a decent meal for $8 or less?

    Opposite maingate :

Subway : Low end subs for $7, pretty much it...(the meatball is good though). $8.85 subs are too expensive IMHO.

Uniside cafe : No/very little vegetables. I've eaten the beef brisket noodles and the chicken schintzel...not very impressive, especially the lack of meat for the beef brisket. Probably because the noodles are just microwaved...

    Near Warrane college :

Mcdonalds : Lame burgers, overpriced IMHO. A filet o fish EVM set me back $8...and it was a tiny burger with large fries and drink. I remember when i was younger, they actually had decent sized burgers.

Campus food court near the library:

Chinese food: Laksa was terrible. They used the wrong noodles, the wrong ingredients, and it tasted like some freakish spicy noodles. Stay away from the laksa.

Anzac parade (a bit far if you are trying to grab a quick meal):

Oportos : They were running some kind of special with a wrap, side and drink, for like $7 i think. Not filling. Waste of money.

KFC : No clue where this is. Where is it?

The 2009 food guide mentions a food court in the quad, where is that? Ive never seen it, and ive been to the quad plenty of times...i've also seen a cafe next to the quad store.

    Re: 2012 campus food guide?

    I like the campus food court near the library. I always go to the Thai/Indonesian/Southeast Asian store and order a rice meal with two side dishes. Total cost is $7.80 and it fills me up quite well, which is saying a lot, because for a girl, I eat like a pig. >w>;

The store right across that one, selling pitas and stuff, has a pita + chips or salad combo that also fills me up quite well. If you get the beef or spinach pita + chips or salad, it's $7.50. If you get the chicken pita + chips or salad, it's $8.00. Not a bad deal, I'd say, especially since it also fills me up quite well.

Edit: Oh, and the Southeast Asian store has several vegetable dishes. A good thing if you want to make sure that you're eating a healthy portion of vegetables each meal. I always order one meat side dish (usually red meat, because my iron levels are low) and one vegetable side dish, plus fried rice, just because I love fried rice.

I like Kingsford Chinese restaurant which is down anzac parade. they have cheap $6-$7 meals there, which are quite filling, although the restaurant itself is quite crowded.

Speaking of the laksa in upper campus, I try and avoid it nowadays, too much MSG :/

Few guys in my class really suggest Tropical Green in the Roundhouse. It's like $5 drink and a wrap/sandwich/bread roll thing. I haven't tried it but... they love it.

Personally I tried that Chinese place near Morven Brown... it was pretty good, from what I had. Person I had lunch with then was like: "So this is why Jonathan Kress eats here all the time..."

What chinese place near morvne brown?

I ate at tropical green yesterday. Stuff was like $8+. Seems to be vietnamese food...i tried the wonton noodles. Decent, but not too filling, and they used pho noodles instead of the correct noodles. You may want to check your change when you are there...the fat guy taking my order messed up my change really badly.

Gonna have to try the kingsford chinese restaurant one of these days....

    Re: 2012 campus food guide?

I cant imagine that roll would be filling for a meal.

    Tried the following :

Quad food court, pasta, some pasta with roast chicken and cream sauce. Absolutely terrible. The chicken was completely tasteless, nor could you feel yourself biting into it because the cream sauce overode everything. I got sick 1/4th of the way through. No vegetables either.

    Library food court :

$5.80 udon + 1 sushi roll. The good news : The sushi was actually decent sized. The bad news...the udon was a really small portion. For it to be a meal, you would need to pay for the $8 udon + 2 sushi rolls at bare minimum. A lot of vegetables, nearly no meat.

The library food court is also badly designed...it was really windy today, and the winds were just ripping through the entire food court and threatening to take your food away with it. There was no shelter at all from the wind.

I don't find the sushi to be decent sized. But that's because I eat a lot. =/

UNSW, in general, provides no protection against the wind, haha. Unless you're inside a building with a roof and the door is closed. The library food court has no doors, so of course the wind would just rip right through it.

That's why you sit in the Pavilions upstairs which is an actual room to keep away from the wind. Plus, there's a Vietnamese place there too.

Food in Kensington and Kingsford is overpriced. Compared to my country anyway. I'm still looking for a decent sized meal that's $6 and below. Preferably, $5 and below. Still ain't finding it.

Tried the sandwich place at the quad food court today (next to the sushi). Lemon chicken. Very nice...good alternative to subway. Everything was $8...decent sized, with decent amount of vegetables and meat. Filling too.

Sandwich place is decent, but when they "toast" it the filling doesn't even warm up 95% of the time.
The pasta/pizza place next door to it is such a rip off, yesterdays pasta + its cold 80% of the time.
The kebab store next door is worth it though.

Which part of the kebab place is value for money? Is it the roast chicken + chips deal for $8? I think the burgers cost $10+ for burgers + chips...although im not sure about that.

You should just go there and take a look at the prices. I went there today and bought a pita ($6) that tasted decent and was extremely filling. The pita is cheaper than the ones at the food court near Mathews Theatre, but the only disadvantage is that there's no variety of pitas. Pretty sure that they have a lot of filling, cheap to decent-priced food.
