dumber
Did the country get dumber or did UNSW decide to jettison all their good proffesors? Is there a logical explanation? The course is commerce/science (adv maths)

The Atar is not an indication of how smart the Uni is .... Its popularity. Your misinformed.

No im afraid, you're misinformed.
The actual population "has" gone dumber by 32% do some research.
Source please.

ATAR cut-offs are determined by supply and demand.
If 100 people wanted to do say finance, then there is more competition and the Atar is increased to differentiate the people.
If 10 people wanted to do finance then the Atar is lower because there's less competition.
Therefore , less competition = easier to get in.

I feel sorry for people who don't drink.
When they wake up in the morning, that's as good as they're going to feel all day.

If the drop was between 2011 and 2012 cut off then it was likely because of the government not restricting the amount of sponsored places at unis anymore.

This.
Fun fact: At UTS, excluding B.IT and B.Accounting (which have additional criteria) and B.Laws , the single degree with the highest ATAR is B.Design in Fashion and Textiles. Usually those who think ''oh no the ATAR is dropping look how dumb everything is becoming'' usually have very outdated ideas on education. They think all the ''worthwhile'' courses should have extremely high enter marks, and are the kinds of people who thrive on exclusivity. I think the Fashion and Textiles is great proof that ATAR is primarily based on demand- that's not saying that the design courses offered by UTS are easy (I personally love design), but it's meaningless.
96.4 is still high, imo.
Aiming for B.A (philosphy) / B.Sci (Psychology) at UNSW

I did know that, not sure why you are including BIT as a high atar course though. It's still probably a notable course but i don't think it should be mentioned alongside Law, fashion and textiles, B Acc etc. Despite the 90+ to be competitive suggestion majority of the BIT (2012) students i've met got ATAR's in the mid 80s. I kind of regret not applying for it even though the course im in is a lot more relevant to what i want to get into.
