You do 2u?
Not 4u?
Not likely straight out of HSC, I'm afraid.
You can just ace uni maths and then ask them to accept you after a year or so.
Hey guys, I'm thinking about taking a course in commerce/science(advanced maths) and majoring in finance + quantitative risk. I heard that quantitative risk is invitation only and you need high 4U or 3U marks to get in.
Right now, from my school ranking i'm looking at a 44/50 for 3U maths, but i'm confident I can get a 47/50 in the externals. My 2U maths is 95, but I can raise that to a 96. Will I be able to make it in?

awww.. I can't wait an entire year. Are there any substitutes for this course If I wanted to pursue investment banking?
What if I go to a top 3 school and I get 47-48 in 3U overall? (I got 45 in my trials with no study..)
Does anyone here do quant. risk and know about this?

If you look at the Quant Risk program: http://www.handbook.unsw.edu.au/unde...ATHR13986.html
The only 'special, Quant Risk-only' subjects start in second year.
So you do well in first year, and then you get into Quant Risk in second year - and you'll be on equal footing.

hm? So if I take something like pure maths or statistics and transfer to quantitative risk in 2nd year, do I finish the degree in the same time? Also, would I miss out on any credits and stuff than if I were to take quant. risk 1st year? What math course are you doing?
Yes you finish the degree at the same time.
And no you wouldn't. You can take the same subjects Quant Risk people do.
Of course, it depends if you get into Quant Risk - if you don't, then you might be able to get a Mid Year Transfer in second year - but if you don't get in then, you'll be finishing later than others if you keep wanting to transfer in.
So basically you can get in now, after a year, or after a year and a half - if you want to finish 'on time'.

ok thanks!
Just wondering, whats the difference between the major "Quantitative Risk" and the course "B. Actuarial Studies"?
