thats called barring, you hold down all the strings with one finger (i think)
my friend whos teaching me makes me bar it
I have been playing the electric guitar since the start of this year (so basically nine months) but I usually only get the chance to play in the holidays. I would also love to learn how to play the drums but my neighbours and family wouldn't like that too much. They hate it enough already when I play the guitar
.
Question for those who play the guitar: when you have to play a chord with two strings fretting on the same fret e.g. the 8th fret on the B string and the 8th fret on the G string, do you use two separate fingers or just the same finger pressing on both the strings?

it all depends on what sort of chord it is though.
yeah true that
umm maybe you should explain it dicky, my knowledge of guitar stuff is limited
how would you play something with 2 notes, but theyre pretty far apart, without playing the notes in between? eg.
e:------
B:--1---
G:------
D:------
A:--3--
E:------
You use two different fingersOriginally Posted by ezzy85

Also, if that is a chord, you would play the strings in between "open", i.e. without pressing on any frets.

im talking about theright hand. if you use a pick to get that, youll end up hitting the open strings in between
i would use the index finger on the first fret and my ring finger on the third fret

How would everyone play something like this:
e-------------------------------------------------|
B------11-14-11-----11-11-11-11-11------|
G--10-------------13---------------------------|
D-------------------------------------------------|
A-------------------------------------------------|
E-------------------------------------------------|
I am trying to play it by having my index finger on the G-10 note and stretching my pinkie out to the B-14 note but it is really hard. How would everyone else play it?

I just played that, I didnt find it hard.....Maybe im just a fully PwNzOr aXeMaN?
Practising it over and over with a metronome will take care of it though. I cant believe youre a guy.......

its one of those tick tock thingys you see on top of pianos. it makes sure youre keeping the tempo and not going too fast or too slow.Originally Posted by Merethrond
Yeah. My advice to you Merethrond is to buy a more expensive wooden one. The electronic ones are around $30 cheaper but they are so annoying and youll probably end up smashing it into tiny bits after a few days...

You can alter the times on them. Anything from Largo to Presto.
