Pathways/ hsc at TAFE

hey

i was just wanting to find out how people who have done pathways found it??

i am chronically ill and have been off school for nearly 4 weeks already this term, so basically the whole term and i was off 2 weeks last term

i can tell by the time i have been at school i will stuggle to catch up... should i stuggle through this term and risk my marks or change to pathways??

also is it possible to do one year at my normal school and then transer to tafe for the second year??? you see i dont really want to be stuck with the year 11's at my school and i also think it would be weird hanging out with them and think it would be a good opportunity to meet some new friends at tafe...

Has anyone done there hsc at TAFE?? how did u find it?? what were the people like?? do u regret it etc

I did pathways because of my physical disability and other conditions that caused me to stuggle with the workload. I found it hard starting in a new year but soon settled in pathways is a great option because your workload is less and considering your circumstances it would be the way to go. Tafe when it comes to the HSC has pretty much the same demands as school. You never know you might actually form some great friends in the other year and it is great for them to have someone who has had some HSC experience. Hope that helps you

thanks... i also think doing TAFE the second year would be great as it wouldnt feel like i was doing the same old thing because there would be all new people and a new environment... i really dont know what to do but thanks anywayz

Due to serious long-term illness i couldn't cope with a full-time HSC workload. I did pathways & completed Year 12 over 2 years, finishing in 2004. I was capable of the work, but not so much all at once. I did 3 subjects in my first year & 2 in my second. If i didn't do pathways, i would'nt have been able to finish my HSC at all. I ended up doing really well in the HSC & am now at uni studying Bachelor of Nursing, which was my first preference. At first I did feel like i'd been left behind, as all my friends had finished school & i was still there, but it was DEFINATELY worth taking the extra year to do it. Good luck!

I got glandular feaver so I dropped down into pathways. I think in your situation it would be a fantastic idea to do pathways.

Choose the subjects that you're good at now and what you know u won't have a problem catching up with. Drop the subjects you find stressful and do them next year OR even choose completely different ones next year (exept for English of course).

Pathways is good because it really gives you time to evaluate your real interests.

I know this message is late, but its good advice for anyone who knows they're struggling and won't get good marks. Its not to late to get into pathways for anyone who is considering it.

I did my year 10 at TAFE and it is a different environment and you may benefit from it. The teachers treat you as an adult, two way respect etc. The classes are much smaller as well.

I am doing my first year of year 12 at school but next year ill do the remainder at TAFE.

On the topic of TAFE I was wondering if its possible to do a subject at TAFE because you stuffed a subject in 2005. I'll explain my example: I do 10 units and am getting a UAI this year- I may well stuff up eng ext and SOR 1 unit- I did ANc Hist for prelim but no longer do it- can I do anc hist HSC next year at TAFE and have it added on to my 2005 8 units to create a new UAI. I'm not keen on this but just want to find out. If anybody knows, that's be great. ???

yes that fine, you can accumulate your hsc over no more than 5 years(which explains some people can do pathways). i'm also in the same situation, i predicted i will stuff two of my subjects and i am making plans already to repeat it TAFE next year.Sucks aye?

P.S- they will only count your most recent mark/attempt for your repeated subject, so if you have a even lower mark than before, they will still have to count it towards your HSC/UAI.

thanks! I don't think I'll do that but we'll see how I go. Good luck in your HSC, I hope you don't have to repeat... just imagine, another year of the HSC. But I guess its more relaxing with less subjects and a different enviroment.

I suppose I'm aiming for 90+ but I'll just see how the halfyearlys go before I make a possibly more realistic gole.

wooh after my year i got 85.9 YEAH!! not bad for someone who wasnt there over half the year!! wooh!! glad i didnt do pathways!!

my advice to anyone in this situation is STRUGGLE ON!! i did and it worked out all good for me - the way i figure it is if i did bad i could do it again anyway!!! there was a lot of tears and times i really wanted to give up but if u can DO NOT!!

good luck to anyone having hardships during the HSC and remember u can get through it and u will feel so much better for holding on and making it to the end!!

I'm doing my hsc this year. Although my marks have been very poor, since year 11. Ever since I moved from Melbourne to Sydney at 2008, i lost the motivation to study due to family problems such as relatives death and my mum being abused by my dad.It was very hard for me to move, since I loved being at Victoria. At year 9 in Vic, they offered me to study the VCE subjects at year 10. It made me very angry to have move to sydney and all the hard work i put into when I was in Victoria). I was in the top math class, and if i continue in year 10, i would probably be able to do methods or specialise. Although when i came up to NSW. The head teacher put me into Math general also known as standard. I was not good in it, since at Victoria I was learning more complex math. Tried to persuade my teacher to put me in 2 unit math, since i knew i would be able to cope with it and i found it more fun than standard but she disagree and thought I couldn't do it. Coming to sydney was hard, the work was completely different and i dislike it for many things. I had family problems back down in Vic and my rents seperated my dad left to Sydney. My dad persuaded my mum to come to sydney, so she did. Promise me that we weren't going to have any more problems. Although coming here, became 2 problems. Still had family problems, my mum nearly died and I was the one who found her in a room trying to suicide. I became lazy to study since I couldn't handle the problems was facing. Teachers think that I'm lazy but inside it was due to too much stress. I couldn't handle it.

I'm doing poor in chemistry and physics. I've chosen the wrong subject and drop a subject, which i really regret on. Since i've would of done better in that one than physics or chem. I'm still confuse on what career path will i do. I just miss out on my chemistry half yearly. Don't have a doc cert to fix it and don't know what to do. My friend said it counts as 1 unit, if so then i just stuffed up since I'm only doing 10 units. I been away from school mostly, due to family problems and relative death, which have drag me down in school work. Not sure if i should drop out, but something is holding me from doing it. I don't want to drop out now since their are couple more terms left. Do you reckon, for me to drop out or continue on? I don't study much, and i know if i don't im destroying my future. I'm regretting alot of stuff i've done in the past, and wish that i can turn back the time and fix alot of the mistakes I've done.
