    Re: The Woolworths Thread

i'm just wondering if someone can shed some light on my current situation:

i have been working for woolworths in frontend for almost 2 years. have been 3IC for about 8 months, my manager is leaving in a few weeks and the 2IC is being promoted to manager, will i be considered for the 2IC position? Or will they bring someone else in? i really want this position as i've been working so hard for it, but i'm afraid they will think i don't have enough experience and am too young..(i'm only 20)

    mate,

general life tip; if you want the promotion let it be known. just go up to your manager and be honest, tell them you know that the position is going to become vacant and that you believe you are qualified for the position and that you have been working really hard. the fact that you are showing some form of ambition and responsibility is always a plus, if done well.

Quick question about part time and wages.
I'm contracted for say (example 10 hours), if I do 25 hours every week, am I supposed to get casual rates for those extra 15 hours or at least get the annual leave for those 15 hours? Currently I get PPT rate with no extra annual leave (only 10 hours annual leave per week regardless of amount of hours I do)
I am an employee of Woolworths Limited.

You should be getting annual leave

There's a fair chance but you're better off asking the DM and putting your name forward to be sure.

New pinpads installed today! Very very nice. And super fast! Happy they went with black ones, looks SO much better than silver.

edit: I assume they are being installed in SCO as well? Ours still had the old ones tonight?

I'm contracted for 10 hours a week, but pretty much do like 22 hours, I've saved up 80 hours of annual leave. I don't know whether its policy or not, but unless that part in the agreement factors... The Clause that states they can't suddenly reduce your rostered hours to your base contract if you've been doing a higher average amount for the past six months.

Out of courtesy my ASM offered me to have 22 hours of pay for my holidays last week instead of my contracted 10.

sorry if some of this doesn't make sense, I hate typing off my phone

What should be happening is you get a pro-rata amount of annual leave added to your accumulated amount.
A full timer would get 2.92 hours added to their accrued annual leave each week, and if you only did ten hours a week you would get about 0.77 added each week.
For a 25 hour week you should have 1.92 hours of annual added to your accrued annual leave each week.

Is this what you mean? or do you mean when you're on holidays, how much they pay you each week?
If that's what you mean, they only need to pay you your contracted amount (plus leave loadings) but i have , and i'm sure others have, negotiated higher amounts if they regularly do more hours.

    Re: The Woolworths Thread

Is ~$11.20 the normal hourly rate for a 16 year old? All of my managers at Big W told me that I would get around $16-$17 hour, but I'm just thinking that this might be my training/probationary rate or maybe the new agreement hasn't been put in place yet.

Well in that case I think all of my managers are either grossly misinformed or just bullshit artists. Thanks anyway!

    Re: The Woolworths Thread

Annual leave gets earned at what you actually work but when it comes to spending annual leave to take a week off you only have to cover your base contract. for example i used to be contracted at 12hrs per week but always worked 16. i would earn holidays at the 16hrs per week rate but if i wanted 1 week off i only had to spend 12hrs.

    Re: The Woolworths Thread

My CSM is pondering giving Supervisor numbers to this operator who has always wanted it. She has caused a bit of shit around the store, and she's been in our department for four months and already is getting pissed about younger ones being a supervisor. If the CSM gave the numbers to her... would our store fail an audit? I'm just trying to look for excuses to not train yet another supervisor, we already have far too many. How many do you guyses have at your stores? We have 6... I believe that is more than enough for a store of our size. Including this lady, our CSM wants to train two more. Where are all these hours supposed to go? It feels like a demotion now that I'm not doing my 3 nights.

Speaking of that, tomorrow all the supervisors are rostered on as operators... yep, I'm going to be the one left on checkouts while they all stand around supervising me. How exciting.

Fuck, is my whinging getting annoying?

I rarely work on service.... but all our smokeshop attendants (well most of them) have supervisor numbers but have limited training in supervision. The only reason they have them is to handle refunds and those trivial things. And as for the audit; we got done a few months ago, our service team was given a 5 star, so can't imagine it playing too big of a role.

How much does your store trade? Speaking from the 2 stores I've worked at that were trading at around a mil, they had about 4-5 main supervisors (not including CSM/2ic) and 2 or 3 back ups to cover anyone who was sick/on AL.

Oh and whinging on here will never get annoying!

    Re: The Woolworths Thread

Our store only has 4 active supervisors that actually supervise (including me), however we have about another 5 'backup' supervisors that just have numbers and just do the odd refund here and there, they never get supervision. We used to have about 6 active supervisors but due to a couple leaving, it's now reduced. I like it better like this, there are more shifts to spread out between us now.

Employee survey results are now available on AllYours.

Ha, we don't have a dedicated smokeshop attendant. The supervisor, or a free operator usually just serves smokes when we need to. This gets quite annoying when it's insanely busy and we have the supervisor on express, everyone off the floor on registers, and a huge queue at cigarettes. They get the crankiest

Would anyone be able to tell me what 3A CAS ORD on a payslip means? McDonald's payslips were so much easier to interpret than these haha

3A is your pay grade (i assume you're in your first 6 months?)
    CAS = casual employee
    ORD = ordinary hours

    hope that helps
