how do you all start creative writing with a small blurb or a quote that captures the entire meaning of your creative piece. is it made up or an actual quote from somewhere

they're called epigraphs, and an example would be something like "You are all a lost generation." - Gertrude Stein, which is used in Hemingway's 'The Sun also Rises' --> they're are at the beginning of a piece

can I use figarative language in a persuasive? like metaphors hyperbole rhetorical qs? or is that only mroe for discursives?
