    I am from VIC, and took on a double degree in Engineering (Chemical) / Applied Science (Chemistry) at RMIT. (Which I believe is equivalent to UTS in NSW)

    In regards to your situation, I believe that taking on law would be more difficult to obtain good marks, but If you succeed you will not only get in, you will be able to apply for recognised prior learning and could almost head straight to year 2.
    On the flip side, taking on arts or commerce would probably increase your chances of getting into USYD Law, however you wouldn't receive any credit for law related subjects.

    Either way, if your level of effort is anywhere near what it was in your secondary studies to score slightly short of a 99.5, you will get into USYD's Combined Law without a problem.
