    Series help

    c) you have GP a, ar, ar^2, ar^3, .... the first, third and fourth are a, ar^2, ar^3 for them to be AP ar^2 - a = ar^3- ar^2 r^3 - 2r^2 +1 = 0 using the hint (r-1)(r^2-r-1) = 0 hence r = 1 or (1+or - (5)^1/2)/2 using quadratic equation

    Series help

    b) really similar to the first one you use the GP mean method again and using simple algebra you get r= 0 or 2a hence the sequence is 1. a, a, a, a, .... which is the constant sequence or 2. a, a+r, a+4r a, 3a, 9a which is odd positive integer ---3--- multiples of the first term

    Series help

    i will do one question at a time, my cp legs a lot 1.a) 1st 2nd and 4 th arithemetic sequence therefore they are a, a+r , a+3r if these 3 terms are in GP they should have a geometrical mean hence a+r/a = (a+3r)/(a+r) since you are doin 3 unit you should be able to do some algebra here an...

    so true +1 i will just say one quick thing look at hsc past papers and there is at q 8 where they ask you to show LHS = RHS it seems like you have to use anything other than Induction, but even my maths teacher said the question is impossible to be solved withoud induction my advice is if the q...

    Help, maths!

    RHS = ax^2 + (b-8a)x + (16a - 4b +c) if you learned simultaneous equations and equating coeffcients technique no prob. assuming you do not know if ax^2 + bx + c = px^2 + qs + r p=a q=b r=c hence using this and simultaneous equations a= 5 b= 3 c=0
