Does getting the minimum ATAR cut-off guarantee you enrollment?

Yeah, supply/demand can fluctuate the cut off each year. Some courses have been known to fluctuate +/- 3. Also some years, if there is a big change in how unis decide to run the course(i.e when UTS decided to offer more places in their journalism degrees)-it was 97 in my sister's day, it's now...

    Packing For Uni

Heya, what uni? Village type accommodation or college? For mini fridges, you often won't need one at places like SUV cause there are good kitchen facilities. College also has general fridges, but most people prefer to bring little bar fridges to put under the desk. Super useful. TV no, if you...

    Atar bingo.

97.6 small cohorts and low rank is always hard to estimate though. May the odds be ever in your favour.

    Is ANU Law any good?

ANU Law School is very, very well regarded/has prestige, don't let the cut off fool you, it's simply a demand thing because it's in Canberra.

How busy do you get when you're in uni?

It really depends on your motivation, time management, your degree (contact hrs) and what marks you want to get into your degree(some people require more out of uni time effort etc others can coast on passing doing minimal work) . It's all a balancing act for an individual.

    Anybody here from UMelb?

Lololol sorry if I was unclear, I'm definitely not in Syd Med, I just decided to do a BSc(Adv) USYD to have a more broad footing in science than biomed at UMELB :P I'm nowhere near that smart lol. University College is quite friendly, a nice aspect of it is that many people have moved there so...

How to maintain a balance during preliminary years?

Yr 11, you can still do lots of hobbies/part time job etc., I only reduced a tiny bit in mind way in yr 11 (I was doing 20 hrs of dance in yr 10 though, along with violin and other ECs as well) and in Yr 12, you can still maintain a balance though you may like to cut back your hours of ECs or...

someone please clarify that 11 units is safe.

There's no real 'safe' in the HSC. I mean it'll just mean half of one of your two unit subjects doesn't count (2 units of English always count though btw). Aim of the game is just to do well enough in 10 units to get your desired score. 11 units may help you mitgate the drag of a slightly...

Can you receive an offer from UAC and QTAC?

LOl QTAC for UMELB? Yes you can get more than one offer, because you get your top eligible preference through the relevant TAC. So I could apply and get six offers if I did each system. I got both a UAC offer (Usyd) and a VTAC offer (UMELB) and then just accepted one and declined the other in...

    Anybody here from UMelb?

Which college? Typically they ask about what you think you'd get out of living at college, if you have any Qs about college, what you'd get involved in at college, what are you going to study at uni, what are your long term plans, ask about your ECs, ask about your attributes living with...

What should I do about my Modern History teacher?

Sometimes with teachers like that, you have to draw on them to help you. If you actively ask them questions or to read over stuff, sometimes you'll draw them out to being helpful to you because they'll see you are serious about the sub. (My modern teacher was a little like this). If that...

    Anybody here from UMelb?

^Heya there, I don't attend UMELB myself (chose USYD offer/college), but I was offered Biomedicine and had a place at St Hilda's college so I did lots of research into the course you want to do and the colleges you'd be looking at, and I know how the UMELB college system works. I have...

What do I do if i got no formal date?

Srs this thread. No it doesn't make a difference at all. It wasn't even a practice where I lived to bring a date to school formal, most went single to mine (unless they were dating someone at our school I guess, but no date culture). Have fun, don't bring someone as a token or stress because...

    Am I cold hearted?

Nah, OP, I think you need to understand the necessity and importance of equity/access schemes. Misadventure scheme can fall short, if the majority of a cohort could not sit exams at this school. Also EAS, EAS fails to distinguish levels of disadvantage imho. Someone with a comparatively very...

Teacher rounded mark for rank. Is it okay

Yes, I would enquire about that. Sending students in on tied ranks is not preferable imho for a couple of reasons. My school always split by fractions. You don't want your assessment mark to have to be averaged between the two of you.

Are regional students/schools at a disadvantage compared to innercity schools?

You can work hard and achieve any ATAR at a regional/rural comprehensive high school :) Don't let that discourage you, if you work hard, it is rewarded! What is your ATAR aim? :) What course? You can acheive a good ATAR to get into the course alongside all those top public selective kids and...

    USYD college application advice

Heya, I'm a USYD college student myself. Use the interstate rural card to play it up in this section that it'd be invaluable in your transition to a new state, talk about skills that make you good in getting along well with others and briefly touch on what aspects of college life you'd best get...
