After further thought I'm planning to head to Coles (sister will be able to help me and such) and she told me that every 6 months your pay goes up. Is this true?

    Working at competitors?

I posted this in the Coles and Woolworths thread but since this is more a general topic too, I thought maybe posting a topic might help. Straight up; as a casual employee (who honestly doesn't remember signing any contracts), is it illegal, and can I face dismissal if I work at two competitors...

Do you know if its illegal or I can face dismissal if they find out I work at Coles (Woolworths that is, or vice versa). Some people told me it's illegal, but told me it isn't. I never remember signing any contracts (do casual employees even have to sign a contract?) so I'm not sure.

(for the record, I decided to post this in both the Woolworths thread and here). My sister works at a Coles about fifteen minutes away, and her manager offered me a job (filled in the paperwork today). Now I'm thinking of taking it, as I currently work at Woolworths Deli (which isn't really...

I jsut had my Deli shift this afternoon. It isn't to hard, but at my Deli (Oakleigh, Melbourne) when there aren't any customers to serve it can get pretty boring. You need to wear an apron and a hat (or one of those weird looking nets if you want). Pretty simple stuff to do, customer asks for...

I plan to switch to cashier ASAP but want to stay at the Deli for a few shifts just so its not like 'yeah, don't care about Deli, want to be cashier'. The reputation thing is what I worry about, after all, not good starting a new job and having your manager hate you - but I have a certificate...

Cool, at what point should I get worried if my Deli manager doesn't call? Should I call her/visit the Deli at the end of the week and ask if theres any availabilty? I want to start working ASAP, but don't want to come off needy and desperate.

Qucik question you guys (you've all been helpful so far), I had my first Casual Deli shift last Thursday, called in sick, manager said she'd call me during the week if she needed me. As a casual starting out, did you get many shifts? One a week, two, three etc.? How many hours? Hope someone...

Went to the doctor today, got a certificate for the rest of the week, so if tomorrow I wake up in the same condtion today, I'll probably have to cancel my first ever shift. I need to find out though, if my next shift is going to be Friday (bad, might still be sick) or Saturday, Sunday, next...

    The Coles Thread

Funny story; Two months ago Coles emailed me saying my application had progressed and they would contact me within a week regarding a casual job, and eventually I received an email telling me about the group interview. I went to it, and eventually they emailed me saying I didn't get the job...

Well I decided to cancel the two 4 hour shifts of cashier training after finding out I have a fever. Now I guess I just have to wait to get better. Best cure for cold/flu is time, after all. But with my first Deli shift on Thursday, I hope I get better in time. I'm heading to the doctors...

What do you guys do in Induction/Traininga at cashier for 4 hours? If you don't actually serve people, I'll probably be fine (no throat straining greeting people). And for those interested, I've got two training periods at Clarinda before stating my first shift at Oakleigh. I assume the first 4...

I've prepared an email to her so if i wake up tommorow feeling worse to email ehr straight away, but even if they can reschedule my Departmen specific Induction, my first shift on on Thursday. So I'm puzzled as to what to do; if this cold/flu (whatever it is!) worsens, I don't know what to do.

Gonna start working in the Deli on Wednesday but have a feeling Im gonna hate it - I have no idea why I even chose it. Is it easy to switch to a different 'job'? Such as long life, produce etc. Who should I talk to? How long should I wait if I wanna switch? One shift? Three? Before I even start?

Hey guys, I don't really want to go through 270 pages of the thread so see if someone has already asked this so I'm hoping someone who has worked at Woolworths can help. I was revently invited to an induction at Woolworths and will be working at the Deli (when asked where I'd like to work, I...
