    Moderating questions

It will depend on your exam mark. If you get an exam mark equivalent to 90 then your internal mark will be 90 and you will get Band 6. If you get an exam mark of 80 then your internal mark will drop to 80 and so you will get a Band 5. If you don't come first the situation will change again.

    Accused of cheating??

The external body - i.e. BOSTES - won't consider an appeal until it has been appealed through the school anyway so the OP has to take it through the school's processes first.

    Accused of cheating??

First you must formally appeal to the school and allow them to go through their procedures - this is what BOSTES will tell you to do. If you aren't happy with the outcome then you can appeal to BOSTES who will hear the case and sometimes they overrule the school and sometimes they don't.

    HSC Exam Marking Process

The HSC has very stringent processes in place but occasionally an odd paper gets 'lost'. It usually turns up during the ongoing sorting process but in that case an estimate based on the school's marks would be issued as a 'misadventure'. The same if there was a fire and the entire lot of papers...

Are you talking about at school or the HSC itself?

What hsc marks are given to the school/teachers?

Schools get: You moderated internal mark (and a reminder of the mark that was sent in), your aligned HSC mark and the average mark. They do NOT get your raw marks or your ATAR. As they have also worked hard to teach you it is only fair that they get the same marks that you get. They...

    HSC topic not finished

The only time I have had a teacher not finish a course by the date of the year 12 graduation she simply had the students stay at school for the rest of that day and come in on the Monday to finish it. I always plan to finish the course with about a week to go but one year it was 10 minutes -...

Did the wrong option topic in Trails and Teacher said she cant take the marks?

Every question you answer is marked and the BOSTES gives you the most marks it can. Therefore if you do two options in one section and only one option is required both will be marked and the best mark taken. Remember that often for option questions there are different people marking them e.g...

    Internal and external marks question

To average any two numbers you add the two numbers together and then divide the total by 2. So to average an internally moderated mark of 80 and an external exam mark of 80 you would: 80+80 which = 160. The next step is to divide 160 by 2 (as there were two numbers added together) and the...

Did the wrong option topic in Trails and Teacher said she cant take the marks?

I had a student do the wrong option for two topics and had no issues with marking those options. At the HSC they will mark whatever option you answer (so long as it is on the syllabus - I say that because there have been occasions when in Modern History people have decided to do an option for...

    10 units but 6 subjects!

You English will count and then the next best 8 units which means that it is possible that one of your two unit subjects won't count, or one or both of the 1 unit subjects mightn't count. Remember that Ext History can count as one of your top 10 units even if the two unit Modern isn't one of...

    PDHPE Teacher Muck Up

I worked with a teacher who sent the exam paper rather than the notification one year. He fixed it and reset the exam - and had them do the one he sent them as a 'practice' paper instead. Teachers aren't perfect - we make mistakes just like everyone else and that is one of the ones that does...

quick question about assesment marks vs externla

Your internal marks gets moderated with your entire cohort not just your external mark. As you didn't do as well internally you will end up with a lower internal mark but one that reflects where you came in your cohort internally. As the internals are 50% of the final mark and are designed to...

quick question about assesment marks vs externla

Your school assessment mark will be the 32nd highest assessment mark for your school. (This may not be the 32nd ranked actual mark due to moderation) You will keep your own exam mark. They will then average those two marks for the final HSC mark.

    Trials > HSC?

In the histories - definitely not with a number of questions over the years even turning up in both CSSA and HSC in the same year or in subsequent years.

    How would estimations work?

Schools have their own policies for estimation e.g. at my school a student has to be exceptionally ahead of the cohort to be estimated into first place. Normally the school places them with a mark the fits in with their rank in relation to the other students on the task so this student would be...

who can we quote in national/ personality study

You can join the State Library online and access a large section of their catalogue online - costs nothing to join. Don't overload your responses with quotes anyway. If the quote isn't enhancing your response it is simply a quote. Remember too that it is probably better to paraphrase the...

the 2 aussies getting execuated in Indonesia

Rather then use the term 'priest' or 'iman' they have come up with a general term to cover a person whose job is to provide some sort of spiritual comfort that can be applied to people of a range of different religions - or no religion if that is the wish. In the case of the two Aussies they...

    Official HSC 2015 Examination Dates

I have been teaching high school for about 25 years now and my school has had this situation about once every 5 years in that time. The student sits one exam in the morning, is kept supervised between exams and then does the other exam in the afternoon. So long as the supervision is correct...
