If you ask for HSC exam recheck can your mark get lower?

An mark recheck means that they: check that the marks for all sections of the paper are correctly recorded and correctly added up If it turns out that you end up with a lower mark you don't lose marks but if there was an error then you mark will go up and your ATAR will also be adjusted, if...

    Question about HSC marks

Internal marks are moderated to the school's exam marks. In the case where your internal mark is lower than the school reported - that means that your cohort didn't do as well as the school expected so the top mark was lower and that pulled down everyone else.

    Above cut-off = guaranteed entry?

If the cut-off remains the same then yes you will get in but if it goes up above your ATAR then you won't.

The cut-offs will be released when the offers have been made as that determines the cut-offs.

    How lenient are Uni cutoffs?

The cut-offs that are currently out there are last year's cut-offs. The cut-offs for this your - for you - won't be known until AFTER the offers have been made as the cut-off is determined by the supply and demand this year e.g. a cut-off last year might have been 80 but there may be more demand...

    Hsc school ranks

BOSTES doesn't issue any form of ranks. The SMH, Telegraph and other sources use the lists of Band 6s or E4s to calculate a table of ranks but they aren't anything official.

can someone clarify this for me

The internal marks are moderated based on the cohort's exam marks so if you are getting 75 internally but get 95 externally and everyone else in your cohort also gets higher marks in the exam then the school marks will also go up.

why are my assessment marks and examination mark basically the same?

You say you ranked 1st in internals with a mark of 95 so the school sent in 95 to BOSTES. You then say that your exam mark was 90 and the school mark was lowered to 90. That is because you scored the school's top exam mark of 90 and that then set the top assessment mark at 90 so your final...

become a math or science teacher?

Older Science teachers had Maths as their second subject and vice versa (certainly when I trained in the 1970s those I knew who were training as either Science or Maths teachers did the other as their second subject).

    Possible to get 95+?

Simple answer - yes. Remember that school ranks - particularly at that level - are very fluid. My school, a couple of years ago, was ranked even lower than that and we always had students with ATARs over 95. We were ranked in the top 200 last year and who knows where we will be this year -...

Question about ranking and assessment marks for hsc

When you get the information for an assessment task it should include the weighting of that task. The school will convert your assessment marks to a mark out of that weighting e.g. my first task for my class this year was worth 15% but was out of 20 so the computer will convert the raw marks out...

Can't access internal ranks from Students Online

That was only open for a week or two. The BOSTES is now busy finalising results which is why they only have it open for a limited time. Not only do they have to finalise the actual marks for each subject - should be going through the computers now - but also send those results through to UAC for...

    Humanities syllabus

Scaling isn't determined beforehand by the BOSTES but after the exams each year as a comparison of the performance of the candidature of each course against the performance in every other course. They appear similar year on year because similar students do them each year. I also know many...
