    Section II - Societies

I'm glad I wasn't the only one then. Seriously, looking at the other options their sources all appear so much less specific. I don't know how they could've expected everyone to know what the hell that was. Considering our teacher essentially tought us the unit out of the Excel study guide, and...

    General Thoughts: Mathematics

Oh my god. Band 3 here I come! It was awful. Despite not having answered half the questions, the ones I did do, I could hardly do. Ah well.

Had to do it - Band 6 anyone?

I'd like to say yes, but I'm not holding out much hope for a band 6. I think I completely shat that chance in the core and society. Hoping at least for a band 5 though...

    Section IV - Historical Periods

I did Greek World 446-399, question b. I was shocked (and happy) with how broad it was. After the Catholic Trial I was shitting myself thinking we'd get something uber-specific.

    Section II - Societies

Anyone do Athenian Society? I had no f*cking idea what the source was. Never seen it in my life and I have no idea how the hell anyone would have :/. My teacher told me when we got out what it was, and I was way off. He insisted we spent 5 minutes on it in class one lesson but I really couldn't...

Section I - Core (Pompeii and Herculaneum)

Feeling like I screwed this section up majorly. Not expecting full marks for ANY of the sections. It's a shame, this is usually the section I fly through but this year I found it horrible. I said Ionic Columns and Impluvium for the first question, but I'm sure they'll likely be harsh bitches and...

    Predict Ancient

Really really really dreading this paper. I'm frantically still trying to squash as much information into my brain as I can, and will continue to do so until I go to school, at which point I will use my remaining time trying to memorise views of sources, who I always seem to mix up. Hopefully...

    Predict Ancient

I really, sincerely, honest to god cross my heart and hope to die, hate ancient more than all of my subjects (with the exception of maybe maths). It kills me that I have such a nice teacher and hate the subject so much. My knowledge on just about every unit is abysmal; Athenian Society, Caesar...

HSC '09- the most paranoid year.

We are indeed paranoid. In our defence though, it was very possible that they could've thrown in some kind of weird and wacky text type for us to write in. I think we all got majorly freaked out by some of the crazy trials, too. Pays to prepare just in case though!

General Thoughts: English Advanced Paper 2 (Modules)

The questions were all pretty good - I was so glad they didn't ask for some crazy text type like a speech or conversation or something. The only thing I'm concerned about is the detail in some of my responses (mainly History and Memory). I tend to lose half of my quotes and arguments under...

I'm glad I'm not alone! Yeah, I really think it was the nerves that screwed me over. I've done...

I'm glad I'm not alone! Yeah, I really think it was the nerves that screwed me over. I've done so many practice essays / stories / section 1s and done well in them. Then I just kept freezing up in the actual exam, it sucked majorly. Let's hope we both kill paper 2 and the extensions!

General Thoughts: English Paper 1 (AOS)

So disappointing overall. I handled the pressure so much worse than I thought I would. I kept freezing up at the worst of times and ended up working really slowly through section 1. Got my story down in about half an hour to make up for the time, but my essay was a shambles and cut out...

    Section 3 - Extended Response

The question was pretty good (though I would've preferred if we were asked to use TWO related texts, I hadn't really prepared to use only one and had to remove a lot of the links I made between texts as a result) BUT I didn't finish my conclusion. I had to rush my last point and half the...

amount of pages for Peloponnesian War :)

I looked at an exemplary response from the standards packages the other week, and that essay had around 8 pages. Of course it'll vary greatly among individuals depending on handwriting, etc. My teacher usually says that provided someone answers the question clearly and thoroughly (i.e. if it...

    "Pens down"

I'm assuming you mean 'pens down' after the final exam? I'm hardly going to be celebrating after, say, the Belonging paper. I'll probably just immediately fall asleep.

Frankenstein and bladerunner - disagreeing with the syllabus

I agree with ekoolish. As I said before, the syllabus / rubric leaves it open for interpretation. There is absolutely no reason why you can't disagree, as long as your essay successfully argues WHY values have not changed, or to what extent they remain the same. I agree with what you say about...

Frankenstein and bladerunner - disagreeing with the syllabus

Where it says "different times and contexts may reflect changing values and perspectives", the syllabus is essentially giving you the right to make up your own mind about whether or not the values have changed. I would strongly disagree that both composers had the "same" contexts though. While...

    Core Study Textbooks

Our school uses no text books at all. I don't recommend this.

Benefits of doing X2 english ?

The whole course wasn't stressful for me (in fact at many times it was rewarding) but there were also several times that it could become very draining. Perhaps being the only one in my class could have something to do with it - not having anyone else to talk to about it could become annoying at...
