Not to mention breakdown of insulators from such large potential difference (quite possible). But it's an interesting thought.

Ah, but of course, it was right there and I said it. 10!/2!2!2!+10!/3!*2 = 11!/3!2!2!. Both come out to the same answer.

    Math1004: discrete maths

The extra condition here is that you're NOT using one of the letters, and it could be any one of them. There may be a shorter way of doing this, but it's more intuitive than explicit. It goes along the line of having one place in the word reserved for your deleted letter and doing one calculation.

    Math1004: discrete maths

A sure way to do this would be to sum up your possible configurations. You should sort out first how many of each letter you do have. (Say, 3Es, 2 of S&T,one of each of the rest). Ask yourself what would be the possible arrangements if I say, took away one E and use the other 10 letters to...

    Probability

Order matters. Two possibilities: bgbgbgbg. all 4 boys are chosen, 4! combinations. 4 out of 8 girls are chosen. 8P4. gbgbgbgb. identical possibilities. 8P4*4!*2 = 8!*2. I either do not get what you are saying or you are making a mistake.

temperature and corrosion at great depths

You should note that it's the solubility of gases(O2) that increases with drops in temperature. But all the dissolved O2 that goes into the ocean can't reach the bottom.

    uses of ammonia

I'd say they're looking for an explanation on how you use NH3. You can say how it is added into ferterlisers, as ammonium ions right? Ammonia was required for manufacturing explosives too, so I suppose you can give a reaction and/or some sort of energy release (delta H) and justify the...

    Help

    In general, d/dx(ln(f(x))) = f'(x)/f(x) for any function f(x). Hence, d/dx(ln(x+sqrt(x^2-a^2)) {note f(x) here is x+sqrt(x^2-a^2).} = (1+x/sqrt(x^2-a^2))/(x+sqrt(x^2-a^2)) = (sqrt(x^2-a^2)+x)/(sqrt(x^2-a^2)*(x+sqrt(x^2-a^2)) =1/sqrt(x^2-a^2) ...this is what you're looking for? :P

    deoxycholic acid = sodium salt????

They come together, as a sodium salt! You weigh out the solid salt, which is comprised of sodium ions and the ionic form of deoxycholic acid. (suffix: -ate) The parentheses just tell you what the organic molecule is and its form: i.e. we have deoxycholic acid currently as an anion with sodium...

    95% ethanol???

...assume the other 5% has the same molemular weight as ethanol does. You calculate how much pure ethanol you need: the 391.6g you have there. then to obtain the same amount when you weight 95% ethanol, you divide this by 0.95. Observe 391.6 is 95% of 412.2...

    Revision Question

My bad... I'm never here due to uni work. What does happen? I know that glycerol has 3 -OH groups, 1-propanol has one and MnO4(-) is some kind of oxidative/reductive agent (which one, I am not sure of). OH can be oxidised to make carboxylic acids... nah, I'm not really helping.

    Back Emf/ Eddy Currents

Quite identical, yes. They differ only in the places you refer to them. In the motors example, back emf is used as we are measuring the overall voltage across the entire coil, which does not form a closed loop in itself. We use this because the principal goal is to mesaure the resulting...

    What is translational velocity???

I believe translational velocity would be the actual motion of the star relative to us. Not that I did astro, but this is the most likely.
