Re: Fish? We're currently discussing that in the other thread. Tis a pickle, but I'd say the source sucked, however BOS would not have picked the "history is a science" bit if they didn't want us to say she was empiricist.

Re: First question's quote: ho-hum? "er empiricism is not the same as relativist" Ya, I know. It's early postmodernism. And I know postmodern theory thanks. But those rhetorical questions are typically postmodern. Two teachers at my school (who are both excellent Extension teachers) both...

Re: First question's quote: ho-hum? She was very elitist true. Lol, that wasn't really a knock at hookers, I was just trying to portray how easy it was to pidgeonhole it. (As all you have to do is pay a hooker to get some) Although since your profile says male, I can't tell if you're being...

    Section 1

Re: First question's quote: ho-hum? Ok, you people have it wrong. I don't have it with me, but she says "History is a science" twice (one tick for empiricism), and at the start, she makes a crack at postmodernism (second tick for empiricism). I guess you can derive marxism from her crap about...

    Section 1

Except for the first paragraph and the second last paragraph, did everyone find it difficult to grab hold of handles in the quote? It seemed really all over the place. It was easier than a hooker to pidgeonhole as empiricist (moderate), but I found most of the quote really led to nothing (except...

Re: Fish? Ummm, we weren't supposed to actually talk about Carr right? I mean, we were supposed to analyse what the jist of his statement was, rather than blab about relativism right? I did JFK, and this question really lent itself to the topic, because I could talk about how historians like...

    Section 2

Re: Fish? Oh yeah, I realised that, but I want to know how people actually went about answering, and how much overall linking they did.

    Section 2

Re: case study - wtf!? It was more talking about how context effects composition, and how new evidence and methods reveal different information. Throw subjectivity in there as well.

    Section 2

Fish? Ok, the question was straight forward, and so was the quote, but after talking to people, how many of you did heaps of linking throughout the essay to "fish". I just summarised the metaphor and spoke and historical speak, but everyone I talked to was bragging about how many fish they...

    stupid mistake

Yeah. If it says "TWO" not "at least TWO" they will only take your two most discussed poems. We had that drilled into our head at school. Unfortunate for you though. Sorry to ask, but how does one intertextualise two poems? Or did you mean synthesise.

    Module C: Representation and Text

Well, it has become a trend to use personal pronouns, but the best way to get around that is to say "one" as in "one can be effected a, b or c"

    stupid mistake

I'd suggest ending it all right now my friend. Just so you don't go out looking like an idiot who doesn't know his craft, I'd suggest reading this first. http://www.thebestpageintheuniverse.net/c.cgi?u=manly_suicide

    Bnw/br

BNW uses soma, phrases and consumerism for control (in a nutshell). BR uses the destruction of environment and consumerism to gain financial control, and thus world control (in a nutshell). It was a link you had to make to In the Wild. Out of curiosity, what did you write for that?

How many pages did you write? [Merged]

Re: How Many Pages? About 6-7 for each, small handwriting (8-10 words per line, 170ish words per page)

'Alter Ego'? Oh dude, I don't see how you related that to age and youth. Good luck though.

    Easiest Test Ever!

Other texts types throw me off. With three essays, you can just set aside forty minutes for each, and put your head down. I thought that as well, but it turned out for the best. I was suprised they didn't specify for any of my modules.

    Easiest Test Ever!

If we were already cynical about the media, how did we answer that? I just detatched as usual and spoke in hypotheticals, saying that "one's" ideas would change.

    Ambiguous Questions

The only reason I'm against memorisers is because it's not exactly learning your stuff. The students who can think on their feet would have thrived in this exam, because the questions really narrowed down your argument, forcing you to cut through the crap and discuss ONE aspect of a text.

Module B: Critical Study of Texts

I'd suggest discussing universality, picking TWO texts to do with youth and age (Prize Giving and Father & Child works nicely for contrasting), then say how it would still work in modern context, blah blah blah, talk about maybe two more themes that do not play as highly as youth and age, then...

Module B: Critical Study of Texts

Just to let you all know, if they say "To what extent...", you have to say to what extent you actually agree with the question. They don't normally like it when you use absolutes. I was done over with that sort of question in my Ext1 Trial, but now I am wiser I got it down. That was in the...
