Likeliness of mandating Mod B text again?

Since they did it last year, what's the chances of them doing it again? It's a pain to have to study 7 poems just to prepare for one mandated poem (KENNETH SLESSOR). I'm just going to study the 3 longest poems and somehow find a good link between them and make an essay out of it and hope that...

    Cracking knuckles?

Is crucking knuckles actually bad for you? I keep doing it, at least 10-15 times a day. I heard it can lower grip strength and cause arthritis. What does everyone else think? Should I stop?

    Dogs Mead Puzzle!

I may as well post my favourite math's puzzle I've come across. It looks extremely random and makes no sense yet if you break it down clue by clue, it becomes the greatest maths puzzle you'll ever complete! Took me 2-3 hours to complete but the satisfaction is amazing :). Very very basic maths...

Do all points for assessing/evaluating need evidence?

If I'm talking about ethanol fuel's advantage, and I mention it has a lower ignition temperature than petrol, do I need to provide the temperatures, or can I just say: ethanol has a lower ignition temperature than petrol, thus, is easier to combust? Same if I mention flash points and boiling points

    Titration help

Say I'm doing sodium carbonate - nitric acid titration. The volumetric flask contains distilled water + sodium carbonate --> primary standard 1) What goes in the burette? 2) What goes in the pipette? 3) What goes in the conical flask?

Terry Lee's 'mental method' for partial fractions allowed?

Are we allowed to use his mental method in exam, as in show no working at all? For example, can you straight out say: \frac{2x+4}{(x-2)(x^2+4)}=\frac{1}{x-2}-\frac{x}{x^2+4} If you were to show working, you'd have to sub in numbers and equate coefficients.

Does equipment list need quantity of solutions used?

    1) Say you used 10mL of hydrochloric acid, do you write that in the equipment list or do you simply write hydrochloric acid? 2) Do you need to write the concentration of the acids used? 3) What about flasks? Do you need to specify that it's a 200mL volumetric flask or a 500mL volumetric flask...

    Polynomial notation

    Just wondering... If you let the roots of a polynomial be: \alpha, \frac{1}{\alpha },\beta, \frac{1}{\beta^2 } Can you express products of root as: a) \sum \alpha\beta \gamma \delta or b) \sum \alpha \frac{1}{\alpha }\beta \frac{1}{\beta^2 } or c) Sum of product of roots I'd rather a) but...

Superannuation or loan repayments in HSC?

Can HSC still have superannuation/loans in HSC still? I haven't seen it since like 1998 or something. Although, Ruse trials have it every time without fail yet I don't think it'll ever come up.

    Formulae/topics in 2U that aren't covered in 3U

Hey, I'm going to wing my 2U exam but don't want to completely fail so what are the topics/formulae in 2U that you must know that aren't in 3U? All I can think of currently is: - probability - Superannuation (Is this also in 3U? I see this in 3U James Ruse all the time) - Growth and decay...

Will you get lower marks if you use related texts from study guides?

Do you think that a person would get lower if they use a related text from a study guide like excel? I'm guessing a lot of people in the state would have been desperate for a text and just used whatever the study guides have so they don't have to do the hard work. Will the markers catch on this...

Earth travelling through space - we can/cannot feel it?

We can’t feel ourselves move through space since we are always at a constant velocity (I think around 100 000km/s) so based on our frame of reference, we can consider ourselves stationary. However, according to Kepler’s second law, we move faster when the Earth is closer to the sun due to its...

How hard is it to get a 90+ mark in English?

Hey, I'm getting worried for next year because the only thing stopping from getting a 99.5+ atar is getting a good mark for english. I'm really hoping for a mark of 90+ but how common is it? It's my lowest rank being 30/160+ students. What rank should I be getting to sustain a 90+...

    Possible to show negative rep?

Hey, is it possible to actually show how much negative rep you have instead of it showing 0? Since I got mega negatively repped on this post, I may as well try and make it into the leaderboards. I think people who have neg reps should get some respect to. Thanks :) EDIT: Help me on my quest to...

How many teachers/tutors do you think will retire once new curriculum rolls in?

Half the teachers in our school are like 40+ and have been teaching for more than 15 years. I don't think they're ready for a complete revamp of the syllabus. I'm guessing they're all gonna retire once it comes in (I think) 2014. I'm going out on a limb here and guess that places like...

Which thermal/catalytic cracking process produces a higher yield of ethylene

I read that thermal produces a better yield but on the internet, it says fluid catalytic cracking is more efficient. Is it true that another disadvantage of thermal is that it is hard to control? Is it the same of catalytic? Also can someone tell me what feedstock is?

Which HSC textbook is the best for practicals?

Hi there, Are there any books for HSC that have great practical outlines such as methods and diagram and such? Even an independent book just for practicals? Also, is it worth to buy Excel or Macquarie books for chemistry or is Jacaranda/Context/Conquering sufficient? Thanks for your time :)

Hey, I'm about to start year 12 and wanted to buy a physics textbook (or 2) to start studying. So far, I have Jacaranda but I wanted more just to make sure I'm not missing out on any other information. Which one is better out of this list (please give reasons): 1. Physics in Focus (I have...
