I don't really care anymore. I was feeling argumentative when I wrote this stuff, and can't see why I bothered now. The one clever point from all this would seem to be that you can't compare music across genres. But It doesn't stop me sighing at the sad state of music today. Pop stars are...

    Conn Guitar

Hello all guitarists. Just wondering who's applied for Performance Major in classical guitar at the sydney Conn or any other unis, what pieces your playing for the audition and how you like your chances.

    2 contrasting pieces for guitar

Lizst's transcriptions of the beethoven symphonies are really easy on guitar, the transcription from piano really works - it goes like this: a||| || | | b ||| |||a CHORUS VERSE CHORUS tutti CODA (on the 3rd string - frets can be looked up in Bach's explication of musical symbols The...

I also always come first in music EXCEPT for composition - we have a very talented and creative composer in our year. However I also came 2nd in adv 2 unit. maths, 1st in modern 1st or 2nd in english, 1st or 2nd in extention history and 1st 2nd or 3rd in ancient history. I had a good year...

A thermos is one of those cylender things for coffee, maybe your thinking of something else. You fill it with boiling water, from home or from one of the staff rooms, and before seting up and practicing (I ussually warm up for 4 or 5 hrs till the performance IN the place where it happens)...

    Rock Sucks - alternative??

I will listen - i'm tolerant (and pragmatic like Xerxes), just not now, im going to bed early after those killer trials I thought I argued well but ive never bothered to include downloadable musical examples, I only ever bother to name reccordings of top of head. thanks indeed for the effort.

Why do drummers get it so hard? lol

I'm not closed, just not open thats all. You have to whinge about something. My case is that rocl is just as valid artistically, remember. My only prob. is with poses. You could say they give you a bad name. And stop saying I'm a lost cause to music, Im opposed to that statement. 'Damn damn damn...

    Performing while sick/injured

See Petrucidude, we have something to agree on: I had that cold hands problem with my trial too, its a pain. The solution was easy tho: I got the tiny heater out of our music room (thorourly annoying the music class that was in their) and performed in front of the heater. Just make sure the...

    Performing while sick/injured

Christ at least you werent killed or anything, poor thing! My guitar teacher had something similar, though less dramatic than a car crash. He was all motivated and working really hard towards the concerto assesment for the CONN (you play a concerto with piano reduction, and the top mark...

    Rock Sucks - alternative??

true. No point at all. When you say 'hoiti toity' I think you are reffering to the starched collar, well dressed, silent and apparantly 'stuck up' look of a classical musician. Let me tell you that the reason for dressing in a conservative way is nothing to do with class (many of the best...

    Rock Sucks - alternative??

""""""Examiners are JUST LIKE YOU when it comes to the HSC, they are biased and they GENERALISE us rock musicians. As soon as they see a drummer with a huge kit and a guitarist with a Marshall stack they immediately jump to the conclusion that they're going to be shit to watch and ultimately...

Why do drummers get it so hard? lol

I have strong opinions about music, refined taste (but not snobbery - I garuntee I go to a poorer school than you), and recently got full marks in the trial HsC performance (not that school music marks mean anything) - If these things make me 'lost' I'd rather be lost than found. Really, I...

Why do drummers get it so hard? lol

I have good friends doing music one. The people who do it are not nessecarily stupid - many of them are great performers with weak theory-skills, and some of them should be in music 2 or 3. Im just saying that its a very easy course, and getting a ban 6 in it is not really going to sock it to me...

I know nothing of singing of course, but I believe singing is by far the most nerve-racking of the performing arts - with guitar or piano or violin etc, you sort of hide behind the instrument. With singing theres nothing at all between you and the audience.

Like this: Intro: restate the quote, intro your pieces (do two) and intro the concepts your doing (preferably all, tone colour etc). Body: Song 1: example (a) say, wooden ships on Antarctica (Westlake): the theme is stated. Then developed by repeating with 1)changed instrumentation (ie...
