With the 2007 HSC Question number 8, why is the answer D? I've read Andrew Harvey's explanation, but do not fully understand why it is D and not Say C.

faraday's law of mathematical induction: 'The induced electromotive force or EMF in any closed circuit is equal to the time rate of change of the magnetic flux through the circuit.'


'rate of change' - on the graph they give us magnetic flux vs time

the slope of the line is constant (ie constant gradient) so THE RATE OF CHANGE is constant - which means the induced EMF is constant

thus it must be c or d

but lenz's law states it is induced to oppose the change in flux that creates it, so it bust be D which is (+) when the original is (-) and vice versa

u get it?
