I got a letter in the mail the other day saying my 2014 tax return is overdue. The ONLY income I received last financial year was from this random job in a textbook shop where they asked me to get an ABN so that I was essentially my own business working for them (not sure if this complicates things) and had to send them invoices in order to get paid.

I only worked 2 shifts at this place and got like ~$200.

What do I do?

I was of the understanding that you can submit your tax return late without penalty provided that it is below the income threshold (IIRC around $20k?).

If you've registered an ABN then you're considered a business so make sure you are looking at the right section of the ATO site. I'm not an expert on this but I believe you have to submit quarterly BAS returns which would've included the income derived.
