yeah, a good family friend of mine does interviews etc for med, works at UNSW and he told me about the 89 guy. i think it's great that there's still an opportunity for ppl despite uai.

Oi.. dun diss that 100 guy .. hes better to me than other ppl in the UNSW course.. pfft..
im guessing it was cos he may hav been honest in his interview cos i kno that sum ppl werent so honest..

generalli most med schools (adel, melb and NSW) take the top 10% of interstate (UAI, ENTER, TER) ranks..

I think what they are trying to weed out in the interview stage is the people who are doing medicine cos they got a high enough mark and they *can* not because they nessarily want to, or are interested in medicine. Its just like 60%+ of the people in my law classes didn't nessarily want to do law (I always have since primary school) they just did it cos they didn't know what else to do and they could (ie got a high enough UAI). The only difference is because medicine is so specialised (ie medicine you do medicine but ppl with a law degree can go into most any field cos it is considered 'general') and because the places are limited (and probably also cos doctors are alot more important than lawyers :D) they interview to weed out the ppl that are doing it cos they 'can' not cos they 'want to'
It is the same as I think usyd either has started or was thinking about interviews for vet for the same reasons...

I think that makes sense?

I highly doubt it, and even if you could manage, it'd be a nightmare actually doing the course without the background knowledge which most med courses consider as assumed knowledge.

nope, the only pre is english (advanced or higher) .. and chem is considered 'relevant' ... i think they only accept pple in that do at least one science (probably chem?) for the HSC.

I don't know where you people got that misconception from. That's not true.

Absolutely. There are people in first year who did no sciences for the HSC yet still made it into med.
