Hey guys,

I just started yr 12 and saw that some of you mention that when writing, you always have to keep in mind your audience, purpose, role .. etc??

What does that all mean? Do I have to do it for any text-type I write?

Thanks.

Audience: the people who are reading the text. For a text you are reading, you are the audience; for a text you are writing, the audience is usually specified - if not, it is assumed that your audience is a generally well-educated Australian. Why does the audience matter? The context in which an audience reads a text will alter the way they interpret it. (This is particularly important for texts like King Lear - how would an Elizabethan audience have interpreted it differently to a modern Australian audience?)

er i will finish this later.. or someone else can :)

I'd say so. for example: Why did the composer create the text, and what is he/she trying to convey?

Although further into Yr 12, you'll probably start using big fancy works like "Composer", "responder" and "convey"... :)
