Honestly it really depends what you want out of your laptop and what you are aiming to achieve. I voted for IBM because now that I'm older/working, I appreciate reliability, excellent build quality, excellent keyboard, etc... and don't really care for spec level (since I don't play games).

I've owned a few laptops in my time, the most recent personal purchase was Dell Insprion 8600 which was great on paper with 15.4" widescreen, Geforce FX Go 5200, heaps of ram, space, DVDRW, etc... but it was too heavy for anything practical. The build quality was decent but I wouldn't throw it around. I do admit I liked the spacing on the Dell keyboard though. Then there was also the great value for money aspect.

Then at work they gave us all Thinkpad T43 (IBMs) and I realise that excellent build quality, perfect compatibility with all the hardware components (ie. no driver stuff ups), etc... are much more important. It's light, portable, not that powerful, but you can pick it up by the screen, you can drop it, you can hit it really hard, you can use it as a shelf if necessary... and it'll keep on working. I even have left it on my by accident in my backpack and it still works. I also found that I liked the IBM power pack design alot more than the Dell but that could be personal preference. IMO the IBM is much more suitable for student/business use to take notes, email, and work efficiently- but for playing games, it's crap, and very overpriced.

Note: I haven't used the T60 extensively (that's the current model given out)- but it seems pretty darn similar to the T43 except it uses a new power pack ><

As always, I didn't read past the first reply to this thread, but I can't find Apple? Since I use a Macbook Pro I really wish I could vote for it and offer some support as encouragement for all its reliability.

Asus. Some of the best gaming laptops on the public market besides Alienware.

Dells and Apples don't count as computers let alone Laptops.
