What weight do you want to achieve and do you want to add strength as well?

Hey buddy, sign up to a gym, if its your first time going to the gym i'd say get a personal trainer for the first few times just so you can learn the right technique and exercises to build muscle in particular areas of your body, technique is important because if your doing the exercises wrong your very likely to injure yourself, the main thing about putting on weight to remember is LIFT HEAVY AND EAT HEAVY so that means eat lots of chicken, fish, greens, nuts, all the good proteins, carbs and fats, you want to increase your intake of food, or else going to the gym will be nearly pointless as your body wont be able to put as much mass on without sufficient energy and protein. Now on to protein shakes, first of all just drinkiing protein will not make u put on muscle! You have to lift heavy to fatigue your muscles first then drink the protein! Protein is normally recommended STRAIGHT after or as early as possible after your work out and just before sleep too as most muscle gain/repair is done while your sleeping. Any more questions just ask :)

protein powder is not a magical drug that will make you gain muscles fast.
its just protein in the convenient form of powder so that you can mix it with drinks.

any key areas you want to bulk up?

how old are you

lol, words right out of my mouth.... nearly... except i wouldnt advise you to use the protein shakes, if you eat properly, and exercise sufficiently it will be sweet... it is usually recommended to exercise 2-4 times a week for a minimum of a half hour per session... but for muscle gain, and when you start footy, it is more beneficial to train for longer as your body will start a chemical process, enter the aerobic system, that is past the burn of the lactic acid, and then your muscles will use slow twitch fibres, which is better for the sport.... the trainer will be a great advantage as they will focus on the appropriate muscles to tear and repair...... making muscle in other words.....

if that makes sense.... good luck and be safe

protein shakes are the best if you make them properly for getting you a good source of carbs and protein right after your workout. And why are slow twitch fibres better than the explosive fast twitch fibres for football? Even if you eat properly but you aren't getting enough protein you won't bulk up like you would were you on a bulking diet.

personal trainer? fuck off you need a personal trainer. jesus christ there are some fucking idiots on this forum... theyre overpriced and everything you learn from them you can learn on websites like bodybuilding.com and such (there are lots, look at the articles and forums). actually you can learn a lot more online than you do with a personal trainer. don't waste your money
if read the stickies and articles on those websites and stick to them you WILL gain weight.

your body is only able to use a certain amount of proteins and carbs, the excess is stored as fat, so if an athlete's diet is high in protein and carbs, the extra shakes are practically worthless...

and slow twitch fibres are better for footballers, netballers, soccer players, hockey players and long distance runners, as they are mainly stop/ start events (not including long distance running obviously) the slow fibres are able to last longer and they use oxygen as a source of energy where as fast twitch fibres contract quickly provide strength and speed but are ultimately active for a short period of time due to the explosive chemical reaction of the lactic acid system, which the fast twitch fibres are reliable on... savvy?

yeah because you get fat from drinking protein shakes. no one cares about slow twitch fibres in this case. the effect is going to be minimal. stop boasting about some rubbish you learn in health.

unimpressed.... to bulk up you NEED the protein and carbs. Athletes also use methods known as carbohydrate loading to make sure they have enough glycogen in the muscles for their event. Slow twitch fibers are not the most suitable, and i don't even know why they got a mention.
Having a protein shake after a workout refuels your body and sets the repairs in motion. You will not get fat off them, everything in moderation, if you have 6 a day, you're not doing yourself any favours. The formula for building muscle remains 1-1.5 grams per pound of bodyweight, and all this protein will not make you fat..savvy.

Yeah thats true man, talking about the fast/slow twitch muscle fibers are completly irreleveant on bulking up. Just use the 1.8 gram of protien for each kilo and eat properly aswell as shakes with high carbohydrate content.
