I am heaps confused about whether cardiac output increases or remains stable as a adaptation to exercise because i am being told both of these! any help greatly appreciated!

As an adaptation, Cardiac Output generally remains the same at rest. Cardiac Output is measured by Heart Rate x Stroke Volume. Since heart rate decreases and stroke volume increases it generally remains the same.
At maximal intensity ie 85%-90% max heart rate, cardiac output increases significantly due to the adaptations such as hypertrophy so it can physically pump more blood out.
