Can anyone explain to me what Depth Perception is? For some reason its not in my notes

Its a syllabus point in Part 3 of Communication:
'explain how the production of two diferent images of a view can result in depth perception'

This is taken straight form summary so ask me to elaborate if it makes no sense

Depth Perception
-Each eye produces a separate image. We have two eyes places at the front of our head so that both receive light from the objects in our field of view field of vision overlap giving binocular vision.

-Our two eyes are separated horizontally so they have slightly different views of objects located at different distances away.
-In the visual cortex of the brain, the images received are combined to produce a single stereoscopic image which enables us to judge depth ie we see things in 3D giving distance, depth, height and width to objects.

-When covering one eye and attempting to place finger on another persons finger, it is difficult to judge the point than when both eyes are open

i hope that helps
