I don't really mind if the question is left incomplete, but can someone please suggest some correction to part (ii) to make it easier for me to understand please. I can't decipher it myself

Shouldn't that be a=1, and all those 1's should be replaces with z's, given it is a polynomial identity?

Would make perfect sense actually, but I doubted it on the fact that a actually appears in both LHS and RHS

I think it's ok to leave like that. But you are right, all those 1's should be replaced by z.
