the recipe:

Sodium deoxycholate (Deoxycholic acid, sodium salt - MW 392.58)

0.15% (w/v) - Dissolve 150 mg of deoxycholic acid, sodium salt to a final volume of 100 mL with water.



hi guys,

i am confused because i don't understand this recipe. is that deoxycholic acid or sodium salt i use or should i use both of them?

They come together, as a sodium salt! You weigh out the solid salt, which is comprised of sodium ions and the ionic form of deoxycholic acid. (suffix: -ate)
The parentheses just tell you what the organic molecule is and its form: i.e. we have deoxycholic acid currently as an anion with sodium, forming a salt.
