I'm browsing at, like, sub-par dial-up speeds. It would have helped if you had posted the article itself, but whatever.

Here it is for the others who are in a similar situation.
David Braithwaite and Ben Cubby said:
Gang rape filmed on mobile phone

A TEENAGER was brutally raped by a gang of boys who filmed the scene on their mobile phones, then sent the footage to school friends, police said yesterday.

Five boys have been charged with aggravated sexual assault of the 17-year-old girl, and distributing a video of the attack.

The homes of the teenagers, aged 17 and 18, were raided by police yesterday and all have been remanded in custody.

Three boys appeared in court and were refused bail. They will reappear on May 31.

The other two face court today.

The police painted a chilling picture of the assault, alleging the victim was fed alcohol until she was blind drunk and then assaulted and mocked by her attackers.

Police allege the girl received a phone call inviting her to a friend's house in south-west Sydney on January 9.

She arrived at the home in a car at about 11pm with three boys and joined four more boys inside, police say. The group played cards and drank alcohol.

After four quick drinks, she became intoxicated and does not remember the events that followed.

Police say she was taken to a bedroom, where her skirt was hitched up and her underpants removed. One boy then allegedly had sex with her as another filmed the scene. A third boy performed a sex act on her face.

Those who have seen the video said the girl appeared to be heavily intoxicated or drugged as she fought to push the boys off.

While she was being assaulted, other boys could be heard giving encouragement and laughing in the background, police said.

One of the boys appeared to break wind onto the victim, saying "get that into ya".

The victim is heard screaming when she is slapped on the lower part of her body.

"The video footage of this attack can only be described as harrowing," said Detective Superintendent Mick Plotecki, the Liverpool Local Area commander.

"As a police officer I am appalled by a sexual attack of this nature and as a father I am horrified," he said.

Police said the girl was then driven home and dumped outside her house, where her mother found her, incoherent and without her underpants. When she awoke, she said she could not remember the previous night's events.

Police said that four days after the incident, the boy who allegedly filmed the assault asked the victim to go to a friend's house and she agreed. At that house the boy took out his phone and showed her the video. She became upset and left.

Police said the girl did not report the incident until last week as she was afraid of the boys.

Police said that in February the video was forwarded to a number of students at the victim's former private school. School authorities found out and reported it to police at the same time as the girl came forward last week.

Police warned that watching or forwarding the video was an offence and could attract a jail term. They are combing phone records to find those who have forwarded the footage.

In angry scenes outside court yesterday, the grandfather of one of the accused said filming the alleged incident was wrong.

"Stupid, yeah, but they do it, [film] everything, they bash people, they're used to stupid things. Was she drunk? Prove it," the man told Channel Seven.
I find that the grandfather is...
A third boy performed a sex act on her face.
? What?

or is it cause their white ?
I think it's because they actually filmed the act, not because they are white (which would somewhat totally be, and is, out of the norm).
note: this is an assumption as there hasnt been any ZOMG MIDDLE EASTERN GANG RAPE BLAH BLAH BLAH headlines
Too frequently that appears in the tabloids. I reckon that there should be a double standard for "MIDDLE EASTEN GANG RAPES".

As ghastly as this rape is (and it has been in the news somewhat) it's nothing compared with the Bilal Skaif rapes. There is a big difference between having sex with a drunk girl whom you are aware could not have given consent and planning/forcfully raping a girl, physically threatening/assaulting her while she protests.

It would appear not, but they said the video showed her struggling to push them off so it should be classed as rape in either case.

they censored their faces on television news as they were being escorted away by police, but judging by the family members that were accompanying them (as their faces were not censored), I'd bet a dollar against 5c that they were middle-eastern.

Oh, and add to that the attitude of the granddad, pretty much clinches it. What a GWB-wannabe...

I don't think the victim, nor her parents/family would appreciate you describing this vicious crime as "nothing compared with the Bilal Skaf rapes". Rape is rape, and it is one of the worst things anyone can do to another human being. You are lessening the severity of the crime by stating that the girl did not have the capacity to give consent. Why? Is it because she doesn't remember (for better or for worse) the specific sequence of events that happened? Or is it because she possible could have consented to sex? (Honest question, and I'm not trying to put words into your mouth)

I agree that the Bilal Skaf rapes were worse than this, seeing that one of the rapes was performed over a period of 5 hours, but I definitely would not describe this rape case as nothing compared to the Bilal Skaf rapes.

@ the guy who said about Middle Eastern.. If they were it would have been said straight away!!

but I definitely would not describe this rape case as nothing compared to the Bilal Skaf rapes.
Rape is rape, but there are some forms of it which are worse eg the nurse who was raped for 9 hours[wait i think they killed her] even if they didnt kill her, 9 hours would be worse than how've many hours she was put through, and the fact that she cannot remember it.

Sometimes no remembering is worse, and the fact that the video was sent to lots of people. Yeah in some way i agree with you. But it still isnt the worst rape ever.

They do look Anglo, but that still has nothing to do with the rape.

Oh well, the chick sounds slutty anyway.. Who else would go drink and play poker with 7 less-than-reputable guys late at night..

I thought it was pretty funny how the article said stuff.. like "A third boy performed a sex act on her face."

I was reading the article yesterday in The Daily Telegraph. They definitely are not Middle-Eastern. If they were, there would have been more drama surrounding the incident, don't you guys think?

Nebuchanezzar said:
Did they force her to drink the alcohol?
She consumed FOUR alcohol drinks in succession. I guess they might have been comforting her while she was drinking but I don't think it would be considered FORCED in a sense. You know what I find really disturbing. The chick had NO idea whatsoever that they had raped her until one of the guys showed her the video (WHAT an IDIOT btw).

It's sad to see that these guys seemed to almost take pride in what they done by bluetoothing the video around to all their peers. I read that these guys are looking at a twenty year jail sentence. What they done was unforgivable, what Bilal Skaf done was unforgivable too. No-one should ever try to justify the fact that there is a difference in their actions. Each one is equally responsible for commiting a crime.

You know, this just goes to show that you should always be careful around everyone, even if you think they are your friends.

Easy for you to say, coming from a guy. Nothing is "funny" about that. It's rather disgusting. I wonder how all the boys can face each other knowing they've all seen each other intimately? How pathetic.

These people are total fools. Evil, i would describe them as, not to mention stupid. Who the hell films their own crimes? is this some sort of wave of stupidity? hey i know what would make it almost a certainty that we will get convicted of rape LETS FILM IT!. People, if you are going to commit a crime, dont film it its just common sense.

Now tempco, i think thats a very simplistic way of looking at it. It could have been alot worse, a rape-murder for example or maybe torture. Implying that all rape is of equal severity is dumb. Not to mention that "rape" can have many grey areas. Sleeping with a drunk girl who gives consent for instance, and then wakes up naked the next day and cant remember what happened so assumes she was date raped.

I am not to sure how racial background comes into this though, people from any background can be rapists... i guess its because in australia atleast, gang rapes in particular always seem to have like that "lebanese" thing in the media.

It would be interesting to see what the sentence will be, see if australia is hardening up their stance on gang rape like some people think we should.

NTB isn't defending the accused rapists.

People, some cases of sexual assault are worse than others. Judges and lawyers, in sentencing, are required to considering the seriousness of the rape. Simply saying all sexual assaults are equally bad and evil is a little naive.
Of course not. NTB was comparing the severity of this rape with the Sydney gang rapes of 2000, stating that forcing yourself on a woman who is capable of giving consent is worse than forcing yourself on a woman who is incapable of doing that.

By stating "rape is rape", I was implying that the severity of rape-related crimes are similar and can be compared, but of course certain cases may be more serious than others (e.g. rape + murder, rape by itself, gang rape, etc.).
